I don't understand how a virus can ever be considered "stable"?? I thought viruses constantly mutate.![]()
I'd say either path is a possibility. Regarding H5N1, I'd look for ANY size string of genes. Mamabird has already pointed out single genes that are also found in H5N1.Sequences - that is a good point. You might see signs of a significant mutation show up in the sequences before you detect it in death clusters. If we saw, for example, a significiant chunk of H5N1 sequence inserted into the H1N1 virus, that would be a very large red flag.
Thank you for the posts; obviously you all have substantial knowledge regarding this situation. Am I wrong to pay attention only to "sudden onset of symptoms,
such as "bluish skin tone, ventilators, cytokine storm, immune system overreaction? These seem to be the most common "clues" of increased
lethality, correct? Any other medical jargon words throw up a red flag?
