Three die of H1N1 in a day, toll mounts to 11 in 22 days

RAJKOT: Swine flu seems to strengthening its grip in the city as it claimed three lives on Tuesday alone, taking the toll to 11 in last 22 days (since january)
According to Rajkot district administration, on Tuesday, a 53-year-old man from Junagadh died in at a private hospital, while a 60-year-old woman from a village in Manavadar taluka in Junagadh died at Rajkot Civil Hospital. A 27-year-old woman from the city died within an hour of being shifted to civil hospital from a private hospital on Tuesday. In January alone, 66 patients have tested positive for H1N1 of which 30 were still under treatment at various hospitals.

Two persons in Ahmedabad and one in Banaskantha succumbed to swine flu on Friday.

Apart from these, the state Health and Family Welfare Department reported 37 cases of swine flu in a single day.

A total of 14 deaths have been reported from the state since January 1 till Friday, of which Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) recorded four deaths each.

Swine flu situation in the state seems to be slowly becoming alarming. On Monday, as many as 24 new cases of swine flu were reported in the state, while four patients succumbed, the highest number of deaths in a single day in the current season.

According to health department officials, four swine flu patients who were under treatment succumbed to the virus on Monday. Two deaths were reported from Bhavnagar city and one each from Botad and Amreli. With this, the number of swine flu deaths reported in the state in 2019 touched 24, the third highest in the country after Rajasthan (72 deaths) and Punjab (26).

VADODARA: Three persons died of swine flu in the city within just 24 hours since Thursday night.

The deaths reported since Thursday night at different private hospitals in the city include that of a 66-year-old woman residing in Karelibaug, a 62-year-old man residing in Ganesh Park in Waghodiya taluka bordering the city and a 52-year-old woman from Bharuch who was being treated in the city.

According to official data, so far seven persons from the city and two from the Vadodara district outside city limits have died due to the flu. Officials claim that a majority of deaths were in cases were of patients had other health complications too.

The swine flu situation in the state continues to become increasingly worried with 3-4 deaths being reported on almost a daily basis, and several more cases coming to light. On Saturday, four more swine flu deaths were reported in the state, while 44 more cases were confirmed.

The state health department said that one seasonal flu (swine flu) patient each in Banaskantha, Amreli, Gir Somnath, and Jamnagar, succumbed on Saturday. With this, the total number of deaths because of swine flu in the state since January 1 has gone up to 38.

There's no respite from swine flu as four more deaths were reported in the state on Tuesday.

According to the state health department, one swine flu death each was reported in Bhavnagar, Bharuch, Kutch, and Junagadh city on Tuesday.

With these, swine flu deaths in the state since January 1 went up to 47. Health department data showed that 57 new cases were reported in the state on Tuesday. Twenty-five of these cases were from Ahmedabad city alone. Ahmedabad has reported 238 swine flu cases this year and reported four deaths.
