[h=1]Swine flu gets scarier, three die, 21 test positive[/h] Vadodara: The swine flu scare is getting bigger with each day.

On Tuesday, three people succumbed to the deadly H1N1 virus, the highest number of deaths registered in the city in a single day.

A 51-year-old woman living in GNFC township in Bharuch district died in a private hospital while a 49-year-old female resident of Ajwa Road and a 75-year-old man of Lalbaug area also succumbed.

Health officials also confirmed that a 52-year-old male, a resident of Diwalipura area of the city, who died on Sunday, had tested positive of H1N1 virus.

With this, the death toll due to swine flu within the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) limits has reached seven while the total death toll in Vadodara region has touched 16.

Also, of the total 29 samples of patients which were tested at SSG Hospital, 21 patients have tested positive on Tuesday.

Of these, three belong to Vadodara rural while 18 fall within VMC limits - the highest number of patients testing positive on a single day this year.

The total number of swine flu positive patients within VMC limits has reached 151 of which 51 have been cured, seven have died, condition of 89 is said to be stable while four patients are under ventilator.

The total number of swine flu positive patients in Vadodara region has touched 218 of which 72 have been cured, 16 have died, condition of 120 patients is said to be stable while ten are under ventilator.


In Vadodara rural, 24 patients have so far tested positive of which eight have been cured, condition of 15 patients is stable while one patient is under ventilator.


Of the patients from districts other than Vadodara, 43 have tested positive so far of which 13 have been cured, nine have died while condition of 16 is said to be stable. Five patients of other districts are currently under ventilator. Meanwhile, VMC teams visited 2,12,936 houses till Tuesday as a part of its door-to-door survey to check swine flu cases in the city - a drive that had kicked off on Thursday.


Over 8.55 lakh persons were covered during the survey. It had come to light that 5,041 persons had cold with fever, 586 had throat infection with fever, 498 had fever with cough and breathing distress as well as 460 had fever with diarrhoea. The teams referred 617 persons for medical tests and 1,596 were given medicines. The survey will continued till August 12.

AHMEDABAD: A 10-month-old boy who had been battling H1N1 at Civil Hospital in Asarwa for a week succumbed to the infection at 1.15pm on Tuesday. The boy ? a resident of Saraspur ? was brought to the hospital in a critical condition from another hospital in Saraspur, hospital authorities said. The death has taken the swine flu toll to eleven in August.

On Tuesday, four people died of swine flu across Gujarat, including an infant in Ahmedabad and three people in Vadodara. According to data provided by the health department of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Monday, ten people succumbed to swine flu in Ahmedabad from August 1 to August 6. Four died on Sunday alone. The victims were Rehanabanu Sheikh, 55, who died at VS Hospital; Lakhada Rajput, 42, of Satellite; Rambhai Patel, 73, who died at Shardaben Hospital; and Bharatbhai Bhagat, 59, who succumbed at UN Mehta Hospital.

Ahemdabad alone has reported 28 cases and two deaths in the last 24 hours, and counting. As a preventive measure, the local civic body has started several awareness activities across schools.
The state government has also called a meeting of all health officials across the state in the wake of the sudden rise in the H1N1 cases being reported. Jamnagar and Kutch are two districts severely affected due to swine flu, which was also discussed in this meeting.
Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Medical Education, Environment and Urban Development, Shakar Chaudhary informed that more than 1000 cases of H1N1 have been reported in July this year, of which 150 patients couldn't survive.

AHMEDABAD: Swine flu has killed 170 people in the state from January till August 12 this year. In Ahmedabad, H1N1 killed three more people, including a two-year-old girl from Jivraj. Moreover, 60 fresh positive cases have been detected. Two others who succumbed to H1N1 complications in the city are a 39-year-old Bapunagar resident and a 65-year-old Khokhra resident.

[h=1]11 more swine flu deaths in Gujarat; death toll 201 since January[/h] With 11 more swine flu deaths in Gujarat on Monday, the death toll due to the disease since January has risen to 201, even as 145 new cases have been reported from across the state, officials said.
According to official figures, as many as 1,754 H1N1 cases have been reported so far, with 913 people still under treatment and 640 of them cured.
Ahmedabad was the worst-affected city with 51 deaths, followed by Vadodara (32). Surat and state capital Gandhinagar reported nine deaths each.
The Saurashtra region with 11 districts reported 61 deaths.
The state government said it had ensured additional stocks of medicines and taken others steps, including setting up isolation wards in many hospitals, but the number of patients was rising steadily.
Over 850 of the total 9,000 infected persons had succumbed to the deadly virus since 2012. Year 2015 was the worst off, with 350 deaths reported from the disease.

[h=1]42 more cases of swine flu reported, death toll at 8[/h] Highlighting the deaths caused due to swine flu in the state apart from other vector-borne diseases, the PIL said the government machinery is not equipped to fight the diseases, leading to high number of casualties.
In a statement issued here, Gujarat Health Minister Shankar Chaudhary said the administration is taking necessary steps to curb the spread of swine flu, with the help of over 5,000 doctors.
A total of 242 people were found infected with the virus across the country since July 21.
According to State health department figures, from the 2,095 cases of Swine Flu reported this year there have been 220 deaths while 746 have been cured and 1,129 remain under treatment.
The sources said 16 of 47 samples tested positive for swine flu on Wednesday, as the number of affected persons increased to 171.
These health workers have already completed the task of identifying swine flu positive cases through door-to-door survey, covering over four crore citizens, the release said.
Officials, meanwhile, said that a 50-year-old man died while undergoing treatment at Care Hospital, while another 29-year-old woman died at AMRI hospital.
In the wake of the rapid spread of the H1N1 virus and the resulting deaths, the authorities have launched emergency measures such as setting up a dedicated helpline and launching a state-wide awareness campaign.

Till August 10, more than 150 people have died and over 1,100 people have tested positive for H1N1. This deathly march of swine flu has authorities and people worried as it is reminiscent of the 2015 outbreak when Gujarat had recorded second-highest ? 517 ? deaths in the country.

Rajkot with 29 deaths and 120 cases and Ahmedabad with 35 deaths and 287 cases have emerged as the most affected areas. Experts said that not just Rajkot, the entire Saurashtra is reeling under the H1N1 fever crisis as it has collectively reported 49 deaths.

In Ahmedabad, five deaths were reported in two days on Wednesday and Thursday which includes a 10-month-old boy, a 28-year-old woman residing in Bapunagar, a 35-year-old female resident of Nava Naroda, a 45-year-old man from Viratnagar and 60-year old male from Memnagar.

In Kutch, a 3.8-year-old baby boy succumbed to the swine flu virus in Bhuj, Kutch.

Condition is worsening in Vadodara district which has reported 19 deaths of which four were reported in a single day, on Wednesday. Surat also has reported 10 deaths including a child below five years of age.

Concerned with rising number of deaths, the state health department has ordered a statewide house-to-house surveillance to ensure that fever cases are detected and treated at an early stage through ASHA workers.

AHMEDABAD: Even as ten more patients succumbed to swine flu across the state taking the total death toll to 230 on Thursday, CM Vijay Rupani went out of his way visiting swine flu patients in civil hospitals in Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot and Ahmedabad to assert there is no need to panic and situation will soon be under control.

"A majority, 68% of the 2,200-odd positive cases of swine flu reported in the state this year are in four major cities - Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot and Surat. This is mainly due to the high population density and therefore, the state government will focus on curbing spread of the disease at these centres," Rupani said, adding that H1N1 cases have spiked in July and August.

Vadodara: The flow of patients with influenza-like-illness (ILI) has been increasing throughout the state.One more patient succumbed to the death on Saturday in the Vadodara city, taking the death toll to 17 in the district.

According to information, a 20-year-old woman from Karjan taluka of Vadodara district, who was admitted at state-run SSG Hospital, died of swine flu.The health officials also confirmed that a 40-year-old woman from Padra, who had passed away at the same hospital on Friday, had also died of the H1N1 virus.

VADODARA: Four more patients succumbed to swine flu on Sunday in the city which is battling its worst-ever outbreak of H1N1 infection this year.

A 30-year-old man from Kapurai, a 33-year-old man from Chhani, a 33-year-old female from Tandalja and a 68-year-old female from Gotri area of the city lost their lives to deathly march of swine flu.

On Sunday, samples of 18 out of 28 patients which were tested at SSG Hospital were also confirmed positive. Of the 18 patients who have tested positive, 14 fall within Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) limits while four are in Vadodara rural.

Ahmedabad: With swine flu claiming nine more lives in Gujarat in the last 24 hours, the death toll in the state due to the infection has reached 280 since January 2017.
As per the health bulletin issued on Monday by the state government, nine persons infected with the H1N1 virus, have died in different parts of the state, while 191 new cases were registered in the state on Monday.

As many as 17 swine flu patients died across the state on Sunday.

At present, 1,981 H1N1 infected-people are being treated in different hospitals across the state. Among these, 17 are on ventilator, while nine have died during the last 24 hours, the bulletin added.
