Surat: Three more deaths due to swine flu were reported in Surat city and district on Monday taking the toll to 19 this season. Of the three deaths, two persons succumbed to H1N1 virus in the city while one patient died in Palsana village of Surat district.
A 66-year-old woman from the walled city and an eight-month-old boy of Pal died in the city while the victim from Palsana village was a 30-year-old man.

Gujarat swine flu: Death toll reaches 288 as eight more die; Centre sends experts to examine situation

Ahmedabad: The death toll in Gujarat due to swine flu infection since January this year has reached 288, as eight more deaths were reported on Tuesday.

As per a health bulletin issued by the state government this evening, eight persons infected with H1N1 virus died in different parts of the state, while 193 new cases were registered on Tuesday.

Two deaths were reported in Ahmedabad city, one each in Vadodara city, Surat city, Rajkot city, Surat district, Anand district and Kutch district.

At present, 1,877 H1N1-infected people are being treated in hospitals across the state. Of them, 22 are on ventilator, while eight others died in the last 24 hours, the bulletin said.

65-year-old woman from Kamrej dies of swine flu

Surat: A 65-year-old woman from Kamrej of Surat district died of swine flu on Tuesday. Two more patients with swine flu infection were found in Surat district on Tuesday. They were a one-year-old girl from Palsana and 60-year-old woman from Bardoli.

Recent stats reveal that Gujarat is the second most affected state after Maharashtra. 437 deaths took place in Maharashtra followed by 269 deaths in Gujarat. Till now, 22816 deaths have taken place all over the country due to swine flu and 4245 cases have been reported in Maharashtra itself.
After Maharashtra and Gujarat, swine flu cases have been reported in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala. The north-eastern part of the country, Mizoram, Nagaland and Meghalaya have not been affected by the virus so far in this year.

Vadodara: A 57-year-old women from Akota area of the city succumbed to swine flu on Friday taking the death toll within Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) limits to 22 while the total death toll in Vadodara district reached 27.

On Friday, samples of 50 patients including 37 from within VMC limits and 13 from Vadodara rural were tested at SSG Hospital of which 27 tested positive of the viral infection.

Of the 27 patients that tested positive, 19 were from within VMC limits and eight were from Vadodara rural. With this, the total number of swine flu positive patients within VMC limits has reached 496 out of which 362 have been cured, 22 have died, condition of 107 patients is said to be stable while five patients are currently under ventilator.

[h=1]Swine flu kills 10 more, death toll at 316[/h]
AHMEDABAD: Even as the state government claims to have the swine flu situation under control, 10 more people succumbed to the deadly H1N1 virus on Friday. This takes the death toll in Gujarat, from January to August 25, to 316.

According to a statement from the state government, 201 new cases of swine flu were reported in the state.

The total number of swine flu cases has now crossed the 4,000 mark, with 4,013 cases recorded this year.

According to the government's figures, as many as 74 persons died due to swine flu in just a week ? 10 persons have died every day for the last seven days.

The state government claims that the mortality rate from swine flu is 8%, which is comparatively lower than the mortality rate of 10% witnessed in cases of viral infections.

"In the past few days, the number of cases of swine flu has decreased and more people are being discharged from hospitals are being admitted every day. In the last 24 hours, 201 new cases of swine flu were registered while 315 patients were discharged from hospitals," the government release claimed.

Ahmedabad: Despite the state government's rosy claims of having the swine flu situation under control, seven more people died from the deadly H1N1 virus on Monday. This takes the death toll in Gujarat this year till August 28 to 338.

The state also recorded 187 new swine flu cases on Monday, taking the total number of cases to 4,589 this year.


Swine flu continued its death march in Ahmedabad, with four deaths due to the H1N1 virus reported on Monday. Gujarat is among the leading states in swine flu deaths, having had 1,674 fatalities out of 15,603 cases of the H1N1 virus since 2009.


Of the 187 fresh cases of swine flu on Monday, 78 were reported in Ahmedabad alone, a statement from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) said. The statement added that 128 swine flu patients returned home on Monday, after completing their treatment.


The situation in Ahmedabad city is alarming, as four persons have died on each of the last three days. As many as 11 swine flu patients are on life support, 12 are on Bi-PAP (bilevel positive airway pressure) machines and 50 are on oxygen supply. In all, the situation of 269 patients is stable at present, the statement from the civic body added. AMC teams on Monday surveyed around 2.84 lakh houses in which they found 1,715 suspected cases of swine flu. In these suspected cases, 37 patients were identified and given treatment. The AMC claimed that a stock of 23,810 tamiflu tablets and 573 Oseltamivir syrup bottles is available with the civic body.

Vadodara: Two persons including a 62-year-old man from Ektanagar area of Vadodara and a 57-year-old man from Ankleshwar village of Bharuch district succumbed to swine flu in the city on Monday.

Both the patients were undergoing treatment at state-run SSG Hospital where they expired. With this, the total death toll in Vadodara has reached 29 including 23 from within Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) limits and six in Vadodara rural.

On Monday, a total of 34 samples were tested at SSG Hospital of which 19 tested positive. The 19 that tested positive of the viral infection included 14 from within VMC limits and five from Vadodara rural.

With the fresh cases, the total number of swine flu positive cases within VMC limits has touched 558 of which 421 have been cured, 23 have died, condition of 109 patients is said to be stable while five patients are currently under ventilator.

In Vadodara rural, the total number of swine flu positive cases has reached 129 of which 88 have been cured, six have died, condition of 31 patients is said to be stable while four patients are currently under ventilator.
