Guatemala continues with death toll in chain, 316 in total

Guatemala, Jun 10 (Prensa Latina) Guatemala registered 27 deaths from Covid-19 today, the highest number since the disease's entry here, which now reaches 8,221 positive cases, according to data provided by the Minister of Cheers, Hugo Monroy.

The official said that 355 new positives were added this Wednesday to the total of infected, of them, 6 thousand 399 are active.

Those recovered rose to 1,504 and 1,638 tests were carried out, an amount very far from the 5,000 proposed as a goal by the Presidential Commission against Covid (Coprecovid) in this critical phase of the pandemic.

Since last week, daily cases have remained on average above 300, even, last Monday there was a record, with 447.

Similar upward behavior is observed in the number of deaths, as from May 15 they occur in a chain and with peaks of 20 (June 3 and 5), 22 (June 7) until today with 27, for a cumulative out of 316.

The day before, the President of Coprecovid unveiled a new strategy to deal with the disease in this phase of acceleration, confirming that the national hospitals Roosevelt and San Juan de Dios will receive critical patients and not temporary ones as until now.

The rearrangement seeks to avoid the dreaded collapse of health centers at its first symptoms last week amid allegations of mismanagement of the epidemic by the Ministry, including requests for resignation of Monroy and his team, in addition to lack of supplies basic and medical and nursing staff unhappy about delays in paying their salaries.

The planning leaves mild or asymptomatic cases for area hospitals and municipal care centers, which could also remain in their homes under strict quarantine, according to the stratification scheme disclosed.

Currently, one in five Guatemalans who come to health centers for a diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus is positive, 20 percent, confirmed Asturias.

The department of Guatemala continues with the numbers in red, registering 67.77 percent of the total infected, followed by San Marcos (5.78 percent), Chimaltenango (2.91 percent) and Escuintla (2.58 ).
