Epidemiological Surveillance of Influenza week 6/2016 (08-14 February 2016)
The influenza surveillance for the period 2015 - 2016 at the European level and in Greece started
week 40/2015 (September 28-04 October 2015) and will be completed the week 20/2016 (16-22
May 2016).
This report is a weekly summary of epidemiological data in our country, for
week 6/2016 (08-14 February 2016).
? During week 6/2016 (08-14 February 2016), the doctor visits for flu-like subscription
show slight decline compared to last week 6/2016 (Figure 1).
? During week 6/2016 (08-14 February 2016) in the National Influenza Reference Laboratories and
Microbiology Laboratory of the University of Athens, were tested for influenza viruses total of 713 clinical samples all
from hospitals. 323 (45.3%) of them were positive for influenza viruses, namely 315 (97.5%)
was A and the 8 (2.5%) were type B. The 284 strains of type A and ypotypopoiithikan thereof the
1 (0.3%) belonged to subtype A (H3N2) and 283 (89.8%) belonged to subtype A (H1N1) pdm09
(Chart 2).
? From Week 40/2015 through week 6/2016 (08-14 February 2016) reported 348
serious outbreaks of laboratory-confirmed influenza, of which 327 were hospitalized in ICU
(Table 1, Figure 3). Over the same period recorded a total of 95 deaths
laboratory-confirmed influenza. The 75 deaths were in patients hospitalized in ICU
and 20 in patients without hospitalization in ICU (Table 1, Figure 4).
? From week 40/2015 until Thursday, February 18, 2016 (15:30), in Greece echoyn
recorded 359 serious cases of laboratory-confirmed influenza, of which 339
hospitalized in ICU (Table 2). Over the same period recorded a total of 110 deaths
laboratory-confirmed influenza. The 90 deaths related to patients hospitalized in ICU and
20 in patients without hospitalization in ICU (Table 2).
? Based on the above, the influenza activity in Greece is still high
flat.

Flu cases set to spike as death toll climbs to 132
The death toll in Greece from influenza-related deaths since the start of the flu season in November has reached 132, the Center for Disease Prevention and Control said on Wednesday.
It also said 100 flu patients were currently in intensive care, with the total number of such patients to have been treated in Greek ICUs since November coming to 371.
