Current information about the corona virus
In order to combat the corona epidemic, the Federal Ministry of Health and the Federal Ministry of Health has set up a crisis team as set out in the federal pandemic plan. The aim is to protect the population as well as possible and to contain this epidemic as much as possible. The expertise of the other departments is also used. Already existing voting procedures would be institutionalized, said Health Minister Spahn. "The structure of the crisis team shows that we take the outbreak of the corona virus seriously and respond to the fact that the epidemic has now reached Germany," said Spahn.

The state does everything to protect its citizens in the best possible way. Fast, appropriate and effective. We have agreed that it is better to test for the virus once more than once too little. In any case, the money should not fail.
Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn
So far, it has been possible to isolate and treat infected people in Germany and to provide close contact to the contact persons. However, it is now unclear whether the infection chains can still be broken. The crisis team has therefore taken its first decisions. Air travelers from infection areas will in future have to fill out exit cards and provide information about their whereabouts. This no longer only affects air travelers from China, but also from Italy, Japan, South Korea and Iran. In future, travelers should also receive information not only on airplanes and airports, but also on trains and buses about how they can recognize the respiratory disease and how they can protect themselves against it.
The day before, the Minister of Health had met with representatives of doctors, pharmacists, health insurers, hospitals and nursing staff to discuss possible reactions to the outbreak of the virus.
Professional associations and organizations promised to provide their members and the public with even better information about the new type of respiratory disease in the future. Medical staff should also ask patients about suspected cases of travel to infection areas or contact with infected people. And for the population, the advice is: don't go to the emergency room every time you cough, but call the doctor if you get infected after a stay in infected areas or get in contact with the infected, flu, respiratory problems or fever.
The crisis team plans to procure medical protective equipment such as respiratory protection, gloves and the like. For this purpose, production capacities in Germany are to be increased and the resources of the European partners are pooled.
Contact persons of the infected would have to be identified and examined and then looked after in the home quarantine for the incubation period of two weeks. The German health system is well prepared for this situation, said the Minister of Health. However, it is also important that both medical personnel and the population follow the recommendations of the Robert Koch Institute and the regional authorities.
Doctors are therefore encouraged to ask about suspected cases of possible contacts to infected people or trips to infection areas.
In the event of suspicion, citizens should call the doctor and discuss how to proceed. "We recommend that the population does not suspect a corona infection after every cough, but that they call their family doctor and clarify the treatment if they have a fever, cough or shortness of breath within 14 days after traveling to areas where infections have occurred develop, "said Spahn.
Spahn also ordered pilots to report the health of their passengers to the tower on even more flights than before before landing in Germany. In the future, this will also apply to flights from Iran, South Korea, Japan and also from Italy. So far this was only valid for direct flights from China.
In addition, Germany has contacted bus, train and airline companies to inform travelers about current developments and provide action instructions in the event that they notice symptoms.
At the European level, it is planned to procure protective equipment for medical personnel.
The health ministers of Italy, Austria, Croatia, Switzerland, Slovenia, France and Germany have agreed to inform travelers to and from Italy about the virus in the same way. The countries also want to exchange epidemiological data and information on the clinical management of the epidemic between the countries. The health ministers rejected general border closings. Whether large events have to be canceled should be checked on a case-by-case basis.
