FluTrackers Confirmed U.S. Deaths - June 27 - July 12

Re: FluTrackers Confirmed U.S. Deaths - June 27 +

Re: FluTrackers Confirmed U.S. Deaths - June 27 +

Two more deaths reported late yesterday (7/7/09) The first will be another one difficult to list.

Meanwhile, Utah health officials reported on Tuesday that a California man had died of A/H1N1 flu in a Salt Lake City hospital recently.

The other we may already have on the list. I could not find a fifth Orange Co. CA listing, so I will report it here. Ignore this one if we already have it.

Five people in Orange County of California have died of the A/H1N1 flu, registering the highest number of any county in the state, health officials confirmed on Tuesday.

I think that the Nevada/Utah/CA death should be listed as CA. The headline in the news report says 'California man' and that is what they did for yesterday's PA visitor to Fla --accounted for the death via the young girl's homestate of PA. (Does that set a precedent for how to document these cases?) So, I am listing this as a CA death in my EHP tracking. -k

Re: FluTrackers Confirmed U.S. Deaths - June 27 +

all 5 in Orange County, CA are accounted for. Check post #152, they are listed as CA #4, 13, 14, 22, and 23

For the California man hospitalized in Nevada who died in Utah.... I can't imagine why they would start switching fatalities to state of residency, that wasn't how it's been done up to this point.

also it looks like the latest death in Florida was a Pennsylvania tourist, and now the death is officially being listed as Pennsylvania death, even though the girl got sick and died while vacationing in Florida. This disagrees with earlier state protocols, since Nevada claimed a New York tourist who died there as a NV death, and Texas claimed the Mexican resident who died there as a TX death.

it makes more sense to me, if they want to change the rules now, to go back and relist all the deaths. But I don't think that's being done, so then the statistics become essentially meaningless. However you guys want the FluTrackers list organized is cool with me, maybe it doesn't really matter at this point.

Correction to the statement about Texas, they list the Mexican national as a death in-state of a non-resident.

Re: FluTrackers Confirmed U.S. Deaths - June 27 +

I couldn't find a more current version of state-by-state breakdown than yesterday afternoon, so maybe this is already there:

From http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/news/updates.shtm

Deaths. There have been 21 people with H1N1 who have died in Texas. June: one Cameron County woman; one Travis County man; three men and one woman from El Paso County; one man, three women and one boy from Hidalgo County; two women and one man from Bexar County; and one Victoria County woman. May: one man and one woman from El Paso County, one Fort Bend County girl, one Cameron County woman, and one Nueces County man. April: A young boy from Mexico City died in a Houston-area hospital.

appleblossom,

I'd wouldn't even ask you to go back through all those lists. You keep doing it however you want to and I'll keep being thrilled that you are so generous with your time.

I'll do what I can to provide information.

Re: FluTrackers Confirmed U.S. Deaths - June 27 +

appleblossom,

I'd wouldn't even ask you to go back through all those lists. You keep doing it however you want to and I'll keep being thrilled that you are so generous with your time.

I'll do what I can to provide information.

thanks MedTroll. I guess if nobody else has a master plan in mind, I'll just keep listing the deaths according to location of infection. From now on our totals won't match the states who are claiming fatalities by residency. I guess I'd better put another disclaimer on our list, ... pretty soon the disclaimers are going to be as long as the fatalities.

Taking Texas as an example:

Texas: 21
#1 Brownsville 23 month old child, Miguel Tejada Vazquez died 4/27/09 reported 4/29/09 *neonatal myasthenia gravis, heart defect, problems swallowing, chronic hypoxia
#2 Cameron County 33 year old woman, Judy Trunnell died 5/5/09 reported 5/5/09 *pregnant, asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis

#10 Hidalgo County, woman in her 30's, died week of 6/12/09 reported 6/15/09
#11 Northeast El Paso, 59 year old man reported 6/24/09 *unspecified underlying condition, hospitalized for flu-like illness
#12 Bexar County, unidentified woman died "in June" reported 6/24/09 TX DSHS
#13 Bexar County, unidentified woman died "in June" reported 6/24/09 TX DSHS

#20 Hidalgo County, unidentified woman reported 7/8/09 TX DSHS
#21 Hidalgo County, unidentified woman reported 7/8/09 TX DSHS

Out of 21 deaths, 13 actually had media reporting. Of those, 9 were said to have some form of underlying condition. This is why I contend that the ones who have no media announcement had no underlying conditions. Some of the counties had deaths reported both ways, with an announcement and silently through DSHS website.

Re: FluTrackers Confirmed U.S. Deaths - June 27 +

The New Jersey website has been updated and now shows 10 deaths.

http://www.state.nj.us/health/er/h1n1/

UPDATE:

A tenth New Jersey resident has died with the H1N1 virus, commonly called swine flu, the state health agency reported today.

The 30-year-old woman died on July 1 at a hospital in Camden County, according to Thomas Slater, a spokesman for the state Department of Health and Senior Services.

Re: FluTrackers Confirmed U.S. Deaths - June 27 +

Pennsylvania updated their website today. It shows 6 deaths which matches the total at FluTrackers.

http://www.health.state.pa.us/H1N1Map/

UPDATE:

I finally found some details on the most recent announcement in Montgomery Co. This was just announced today, so I wonder if the total should actually be seven? Just thinking out loud. Here is the short report I found.

NORRISTOWN — A 19-year-old woman who was suffering from other medical conditions succumbed to complications from an infection of H1N1, according to the Montgomery County Health Department.

The Health Department was withholding the woman's name and town of residence to protect the family. It also would not say what else the woman was suffering from.

The Health Department said underlying conditions were to blame for the fatality and that this was the first death from H1N1 virus, also known as swine flu, in the county.

Re: FluTrackers Confirmed U.S. Deaths - June 27 +

Here is a little more information on the latest two deaths in Minnesota that you have listed as #200 and #201.

Two more deaths linked with the swine flu virus are reported in Minnesota, raising the total to three.

The state Department of Health said Wednesday that an elderly individual and a child, both from the Twin Cities area, were the latest victims.

Officials said the elderly patient had underlying medical problems and was hospitalized, while the child had an extensive bacterial infection in addition to the virus.

Re: FluTrackers Confirmed U.S. Deaths - June 27 +

Two more deaths reported today in LA County.

Two more people have died in Los Angeles County from the novel H1N1 swine flu virus, local public health officials said today.

The deaths occurred among people who were at risk for higher complications from the flu. The latest victim was a pregnant woman, whose baby survived. The other occurred in a person with an underlying medical problem.

L. A. County now has a total of three confirmed deaths related to the H1N1 virus.

Re: FluTrackers Confirmed U.S. Deaths - June 27 +

Thanks everyone.

Los Angeles County in California is reporting 3 deaths, only one of which was new, so we are at 29 for the state. On our details list they are CA #2, 12, and now 29.

I also added the info on the Minnesota deaths to our details list

Medtroll I am getting 6 in Pennsylvania with the latest report. PA #6 is probably our latest Florida fatality, but there aren't enough details to tell for sure. I've listed it with a note that it is probably a repeat.

I saw the note and think that is a good way to handle it. It might be possible in the future to confirm the duplication, but with the lack of information being provided to the public, probably not.

I am also showing 6 for PA, so we agree there. My total is one higher than our "official" list here. Tonight I will try to see where I am off. I have not had time to see which state I have more listed.
