Re: FluTrackers Confirmed U.S. Deaths - August 1+

Accurate fatality information at this point is essential. Fatalities may be the first and/or only indicator we get of the beginning of the next wave of the pandemic. FluTrackers indicates that as of today there are "TOTAL - 403* *This number represents deaths as described and reported in the media.

Sources include "State Numbers", County Department of Health, Flutrackers Confirmed U.S. Fatalities, 8/1/09, In the database, and last but not least - *This number represents deaths as described and reported in the media.

On a neighboring site the fatality number is ----- Fatal Cases (1485). That is almost 4 times the amount that is being reported in this thread. That is way too much of a discrepancy for comfort and trust.

Which is accurate? Is either accurate? Is the 1485 documentable and if so, the other should get up to speed.....

.....Yes, where do we find that info on FluTrackers? Not just the U.S. which may not be representative - but the total number.

all of the information posted to FluTrackers, including the info found in this thread, is done by volunteers, people just like yourself. The information is as accurate as we can make it given the small number of people we have contributing.

As for the total number of deaths worldwide, there is no such count being done on FluTrackers. people have continually made requests for the information, but no one has volunteered to do the work to compile it.

if you find the FluTrackers death tallies useful, or if you don't, perhaps you should consider contributing some of your time to help us.

Thanks JimO,

Here are more details from that link you provided. I will get this information entered into the database sometime later today.

CORPUS CHRISTI ? A second person with swine flu in Nueces County has died. Melissa Cantu, 31, who has been hospitalized two weeks on a ventilator from complications of swine flu, died about 11:30 p.m. Monday, family members said.

According to her husband, "She?s never had health problems before, and has been such a fighter, but her lungs couldn?t fight off the pneumonia and flu virus.?

Re: FluTrackers Confirmed U.S. Deaths - August 1+

More details from the most recent Texas death. From this report it seems there was an early diagnosis yet she still was unable to overcome the infection.
This case has been entered into the database.

http://www.kristv.com/global/story.asp?s=10844587

The Corpus Christi - Nueces County Public Health District announced that it has received confirmation of a second death in Nueces County as a result of the H1N1 Flu Virus, which is commonly referred to as the "Swine Flu." The woman, who was a Corpus Christi resident, died at 11:24 p.m. on August 3, 2009 at Spohn South Hospital.

According to Dr. William Burgin, Jr., Local Health Authority, the woman had been hospitalized since July 20, 2009. The woman, who was in her early thirties, reportedly did not have a history of travel to Mexico or any medical condition prior to the onset of the illness.

http://www.kristv.com/Global/story.asp?S=10847127

"In this state-of-the-art facility, a nasal swab from Cantu and other swine flu victims is tested. In as little as eight hours, the results can be known," Burgin explained. "We have a more advanced level of lab than other facilities locally. We are one of the few labs in the state that can test for various bacteria agents."
With the advanced lab at the health department, doctors don't have to send test results far, so treatment can begin quickly for patients testing positive.

This report is dated August 5th. Do we already have it?

13th swine-flu death reported in county
A 72-year-old woman with a previous illness has become the 13th person in San Diego County to die of complications related to the swine flu, county health officials said this afternoon.

Officials declined to release her identity.

Because the H1N1 influenza virus has become so widespread, epidemiologists believe that swine flu cases are vastly under-reported.

Re: FluTrackers Confirmed U.S. Deaths - August 1+

Appleblossom,

I had two more in Dade County, FL reported yesterday.

53-yr-old male US405
60-yr-old male US406

I had to delete two unspecified deaths from the database that were duplicates to two of the Dade County deaths. These were caseids US400 and US401. I will use those caseids for the next two Florida deaths reported.

Given these changes, the database is showing 43 deaths in Florida.
