FluTrackers Confirmed U.S. Deaths - August 1+

Re: FluTrackers Confirmed U.S. Deaths - August 1+

From the Sacramento County Department of Health website:

http://www.sacdhhs.com/article.asp?ContentID=1995

*Sacramento County H1N1 Cases
*(as of July 30, 2009)**
*Confirmed cases:
***
*Hospitalizations:
*50
*Deaths:
*5

If Sacramento County is reporting a total of 5 deaths, that would mean Karen Ann Hays, the cancer nurse from the Carmichael hospital, is one of our previously reported "unidentified person" fatalities.

Re: FluTrackers Confirmed U.S. Deaths - August 1+

I have still not added Texas number 28 to the database as I thought we'd decided it was a duplication of one of the CA deaths. However, we are reporting 28 in our list here. My list for Texas is still at 27.

In the database, I thought we had Texas 28 listed as a Texas resident that died in CA. In other words it was listed as a CA death.

If I have misunderstood please let me know and I will be happy to add it to the Texas list.

I will be away from the PC most of the day and will check back late tonight or in the morning.

Re: FluTrackers Confirmed U.S. Deaths - August 1+

I just wanted to point out a couple of new U.S. data sets on the database. there's a U.S. list called "State Numbers" similar to the daily summary that I post here on the thread.

http://ft100.dabbledb.com/publish/f...itedstatesush1n1fatalityliststatenumbers.html

this is to give a quick view of all state numbers on the database without having to view each state list individually. I will try to keep up an independent count here on the forum to help us verify database entries and correct mistakes. but if I fall behind or miss a day, you can check the latest numbers with that link.

the other list is a condensed list of cases called "Export List". It includes only location, URL, and case description, so that if you want to download a text version of the case listings, it will be less cluttered and hopefully easier to read and post to other forums.

http://ft100.dabbledb.com/publish/f...unitedstatesush1n1fatalitylistexportlist.html

The list is displayed as a table with subheadings by state. Click on the "Export" button at the top right of the screen and choose "Text" if you would like a text version of the case details.

Re: FluTrackers Confirmed U.S. Deaths - August 1+

Maybe it's just me, but I find the hat-tip icon disrespectful when paired with announcing a death. I never had a problem with the words "hat tip," but the icon bugs me. Like I said, maybe it's just me and I need to get over it.

I understand your position. This is a serious situation and deserves a serious mindset.

However, I looked back at the post and disagree with your objection in this case. The hat tip was not in response to the announcement, but rather in response to additional help from a volunteer, and also in welcome to a new contributor. I think JimO used the icon appropriately in this case.

Just my opinion,

Re: FluTrackers Confirmed U.S. Deaths - August 1+

I believe this is the first swine flu death in Iowa.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/chi-ap-ia-iowa-swinefludeat,0,6173276.story

DES MOINES, Iowa - State health officials say an Iowan has died from swine flu.

The Iowa Department of Public Health announced the state's first death from the virus on Monday.

State health officials say confidentiality laws prohibit them from releasing any information about the victim.

Re: FluTrackers Confirmed U.S. Deaths - August 1+

Accurate fatality information at this point is essential. Fatalities may be the first and/or only indicator we get of the beginning of the next wave of the pandemic. FluTrackers indicates that as of today there are "TOTAL - 403* *This number represents deaths as described and reported in the media.

Sources include "State Numbers", County Department of Health, Flutrackers Confirmed U.S. Fatalities, 8/1/09, In the database, and last but not least - *This number represents deaths as described and reported in the media.

On a neighboring site the fatality number is ----- Fatal Cases (1485). That is almost 4 times the amount that is being reported in this thread. That is way too much of a discrepancy for comfort and trust.

Which is accurate? Is either accurate? Is the 1485 documentable and if so, the other should get up to speed.

I have a total of 1,492 confirmed cases worldwide. Is it possible that is what the other site is referring to?

Re: FluTrackers Confirmed U.S. Deaths - August 1+

Yes, where do we find that info on FluTrackers? Not just the U.S. which may not be representative - but the total number.

Well, that is my personal tally. We had hoped to get all the deaths into the database, but that looks unlikely. I'd be happy to provide my spreadsheet to anyone who would like it. It's an Excel file and I would have to send it to an email address.
