So this is a cluster officially confirmed by the Minister of Health. Cluster meaning two positives in the same community.

I tt'ed this yesterday:

the 'Case' of 'Bird Flu in Balinese Dipastikan Cluster'
Jakarta -- MIOL: Health Minister Siti Fadilah Soepari said, the case of bird flu in Bali that claimed the life of two people, it was confirmed the case cluster (the case of gathering bird flu).
"If according to me that cluster, first his child who was named the Lamp died on August 5."
Afterwards entered his mother, Ni Luh Putu Sri Widiani to the hospital with the same sign, namely difficult pneumonia, he said to the press, in Jakarta, on Tuesday (14/8).
Fadilah said, although the Lamp, could not be taken by the example spesiemen him because keburu died, but with the same sign and the story of the incident, was believed in the positive also Lamp was attacked by bird flu.
That struck Ni Luh Putu Sri Widiani, 29, really were similar to the case of bird flu to humankind that was first in Indonesia.
That is to the deceased's family Iwan Sunarya, in Tangerang, in June 2005.
Concerning the status of the Luar Biasa Incident (KLB), Fadilah said, since 2005 the KLB status bird flu has been put into effect and up to now is never pulled out.
"So KLB bird flu has been put into effect from long before."
If KLB local, could, because of the bird flu incident there just the first time.
According to Fadilah, Pemda local carried out prevention efforts well.
The proof is, since being known had hundreds of chickens died suddenly on July 17 2007, the Regional Government carried out the extermination (culling) the poultry.
"Possibly culling was carried out not wider, so as to there are those that slipped away."
The member the Command Post of Flu Burung Muhammad Nadhirin added, when followed mazhab the health agency of the world, WHO, cluster could be stated from a minimal case consisted of one positive person of bird flu, and one person more (could relatives or the neighbour).
Although being not yet proven to be positive in a manner the laboratory but was proven menunjukan the same sign and mutually related, this case daapt was said cluster.
If in Indonesia, the procedure of a case was said cluster, if, minimal was gotten by two people that remained in one community, and both of them were stated positive by two quality laboratories of WHO. Yakni, Laboratorium.

Bird flu shakes tourism confidence
Ary Hermawan, The Jakarta Post, Denpasar
Aug 16, 2007

The very real threat posed by bird flu to Bali was underlined by Sunday's death of a 29-year-old female resident of Jembrana regency in western Bali from the disease, as tourism officials now worry about the impact on their industry.

"We have to admit that we are very concerned about the issue. It would surely affect the number of visitors to Bali," said Ida Bagus Sidharta Putra, chairman of the Sanur Development Foundation, which is organizing the 2007 Sanur Village Festival.

The Bali Tourism Agency said travel agents have been receiving questions from potential tourists about bird flu on the island.

"I have told them not to be fully open about it. What matters is the way we deliver the information. We don't want them to misconstrue the situation," agency head Gde Nurjaya said.

Health officials in Jakarta confirmed Monday that Sri Widiantari, a resident of Tukad Aya village, Negara, Jembrana regency, who died at Sanglah Hospital last Sunday, was positive for bird flu.

She is the first human case on Bali. Across the country a total of 83 people have died of the disease.

This is the third blow to Bali's tourist industry in the last two months. In early July, the European Commission discouraged its citizens from flying with Indonesian airlines when visiting Bali.

Shortly afterward the Australian government issued a new travel advisory, warning Jakarta and Bali were currently being targeted by terrorists.

Officials are concerned the warnings and bird flu case will derail the local tourist industry's current recovery.

According to the latest numbers, the number of international tourist arrivals rose by 35 percent from 552,573 in the first semester of 2006 to 745,949 in the same period this year.

"The situation is actually improving," Nurjaya said, adding that the number of tourist arrivals for the year had already passed the 900,000 mark.

The Bali Health Agency said the administration had taken necessary measures to contain the bird flu virus and prevent it from spreading to other regions. It has put in place security measures around Tukad Aya village and its surroundings, and is checking all residents for bird flu symptoms such as cough and fever.

The administration is also conducting a mass cull of chickens in the area.

"No farmers will be allowed to make contact with H5N1-infected fowl," agency head Dewa Ketut Oka said.

Tabanan Hospital has been prepared to handle suspected bird flu patients from western Bali, and Gianyar Hospital for patients from eastern Bali.

Oka, however, said Sanglah Hospital would continue to be the main hospital for suspected bird flu patients, because it boasts better human resources and equipment.

"We have also prepared 1,100 packets of Tamiflu that are available in all district hospitals and community clinics. The medicine will be given to those who show symptoms and who have a history of contact with chickens," he said.

The health agency's head of contagious diseases, Ketut Subrata, said that as of Tuesday the agency had not found anyone in Jembrana regency with symptoms of bird flu.

"We have also taken blood samples from nine people related to the bird flu patient who died over the weekend, as well as from her neighbors," he said.

The agency will send the samples to Jakarta for laboratory tests.

Nurjaya said the administration would not prevent tourists from visiting Jembrana, but added that most people would understandably avoid the area.

"I don't think they need to be told not to go there," he said.

Meanwhile, a doctor at Sanglah Hospital said a 2-year-old girl being treated at the hospital with bird flu symptoms was improving.

The girl, who lives near bird flu victim Sri Widiantari, was initially admitted with what was thought to be just a common cold.

"We are still investigating whether the daughter of Widiantari also died of bird flu," Ketut said.

Widiantari's daughter, Dian, 5, died on Aug. 3. She was originally diagnosed with severe pneumonia and typhus, and was never tested for bird flu.

"We urge people to go to immediately go to the nearest hospital if they are suffering a cold or high fever," Ketut said.

He said a team from the World Health Organization and the Health Ministry was in the province to monitor developments and study how the virus crossed over to humans.

Bali Governor Dewa Beratha said the provincial administration would hold a meeting with officials from the central government on Aug. 16 to discuss the management of the bird flu outbreak on the island.

"We have been preparing for this for the last two years," he said.

Indonesian toddler in Bali cleared of bird flu
Wed Aug 15, 2007 1:04PM IST

JAKARTA (Reuters) - A two-year-old Indonesian girl in Bali suspected of having bird flu after a neighbour died of the disease has tested negative for the H5N1 virus, a health ministry official said on Wednesday.

The girl was recovering in a hospital in Bali's capital Denpasar and would soon be released, Suharda Ningrum of the health ministry's bird flu centre told Reuters by telephone.

A neighbour of the girl from the same village in west Bali became the first confirmed human death from the H5N1 bird flu virus on the resort island hugely popular with foreign tourists.

The woman, 29, died on Sunday.

Her 5-year-old daughter also died recently after playing with chickens but it was unclear if the girl died of bird flu because no tissue samples were collected from the girl's remains.

Officials said there had been sick chickens in the village and many fowl had died in recent weeks.

Bayu Krisnamurthi, head of the national bird flu commission, said on Monday measures to contain the outbreak had been put in place, including culling and testing of humans and animals in the area.

Bird flu is endemic in bird populations in most parts of Indonesia and experts said the virus has been endemic in Bali's poultry population since 2003.

In Bali, as in the rest of the country, millions of backyard chickens live in close proximity to people.

Experts fear if the virus develops the ability to pass easily between humans, millions might die in a pandemic.

Indonesia has had 82 confirmed human deaths from bird flu, the highest of any country in the world.

There have been 320 confirmed human cases and 193 deaths globally, according to World Health Organisation data.

Bali, a predominantly Hindu island in mostly Muslim Indonesia, is the centre of Indonesia's tourism industry and the woman's death could deal a blow for the island, which is recovering from several deadly bomb attacks by Islamic militants.

Indonesian teenager dies of bird flu -official

(Adds quotes, details)

JAKARTA, Aug 16 (Reuters) - A 17-year-old Indonesian girl has died of bird flu, taking the country's death toll from the virus to 83, a health ministry official said on Thursday.

Her death comes days after a 29-year-old woman living on Bali died of the disease, becoming the resort island's first known human fatality from the H5N1 virus.

The 17-year-old maid from Tangerang west of Jakarta died on Tuesday after falling ill with a high fever last week, Joko Suyono of the ministry's bird flu centre said by telephone.

The most common way for humans to become infected with the H5N1 virus is through contact with sick fowl, but officials were still investigating how she contracted the disease.

"She suffered from high fever and breathing difficulties," ministry official Muhammad Nadirin said by telephone.

The victim's employer told hospital director Maruzzaman Naim that the girl, who came from Cilacap in Central Java, had only been working for three months in the area.

Officials were still investigating how she came in contact with sick fowl.

"There were no fowl in the neighbourhood. The family doesn't keep any and she had no direct contact with chickens,"
Naim said by telephone.

Bird flu is endemic in bird populations in most parts of Indonesia, where millions of backyard chickens are kept in close proximity to people.

Indonesia has had 104 confirmed human cases from bird flu out of which 83 had been fatal, the highest death toll for any country in the world.

Excluding the latest death, there have been 320 confirmed human cases and 193 deaths globally, according to World Health Organisation data.

Experts fear if the virus develops the ability to pass easily between humans, millions might die in a pandemic.
