The first person diagnosed with coronavirus in London turned up unannounced at a hospital in an Uber taxi after falling ill, the Guardian has been told.

Two staff from Lewisham hospital in south London are now in isolation at home after coming into contact with the woman, a Chinese national who had recently arrived in the capital from China.

Lewisham hospital on Thursday confirmed the unnamed patient had not followed public health officials’ advice and had simply “self-presented” at its A&E unit last Sunday afternoon...

A GP practice in North London has closed due to the coronavirus.

A notice on the surgery's website posted on Thursday, February 13 has confirmed it will be closed until Friday, February 14.

The GP practice in question is Ritchie Street Health Centre in Islington.

People are being told to avoid the practice even if they think they might have the deadly virus...

Health experts and council workers say they are working closely together to help prevent the spread of coronavirus after it emerged a man who has tested positive for the virus attended a conference in Westminster.

The unnamed patient attended the UK Bus Summit at the QEII conference centre on February 6 alongside 250 others.

So far nine people have been diagnosed with the virus in the UK. London’s first patient, who is not the person who attended the conference initially turned up to A&E in Lewisham...

Coronavirus: Two MPs self-isolate after attending same conference as COVID-19 patient

One of the people diagnosed with coronavirus in the UK attended a conference near parliament last week along with about 250 other delegates - including two Labour MPs who are now self-isolating themselves.

The patient, who has not been named, attended the UK Bus Summit at Westminster's QEII Centre in central London on 6 February.

The event was described as the "premier bus event covering all parts of the UK".

Speakers and attendees included "key decision makers in government from around the UK" as well as bus and coach industry representatives.

Among the speakers listed were buses minister, Baroness Vere; junior transport minister, Nusrat Ghani - who lost her job in this week's government reshuffle; and various managing directors of bus firms.

Labour MP Alex Sobel revealed he was among the attendees of the summit and is now self-isolating himself after hearing about the presence of a coronavirus patient through media reports...

A passenger fell ill with suspected coronavirus on a United Airlines flight from San Francisco to Heathrow this morning.

The unnamed passenger was reportedly isolated at the back of the plane, but staff dealing with the incident were not said to be wearing face masks or protective clothing.

Other passengers were later released from the plane, but Andy West, from Henley-on-Thames, told Sky News that they were not given any advice about what to do next.

Public Health England have so far declined to comment on the individual case

Interesting thought - so I had a look around. It seems the air circulation is divided up into seat sections and you breathe a 50% new and 50% recycled brew with a segment of your fellow passengers. They also have Hepa filters built into the system - and every article I have read suggests that you are at a much greater risk of contamination by touching something rather than breathing it in. ;) Keep your hand sanitizer handy.

A GP practice in Portsmouth has been put on lockdown after a woman with suspected coronavirus visited for a check-up. Several patients were ordered to leave Kingston Crescent Surgery at 4.30pm this afternoon due to an ’emergency’. It is understood the alarm was raised over a woman who had recently flown into Gatwick Airport who has now gone to hospital for tests...
 
I know someone who has recently flown into Gatwick - from Asia - and there was no obvious information at the airport - or provided by the airline - that stated you should telephone ahead if you subsequently became unwell. It is hardly surprising that people are just showing up at surgeries - probably not wanting to make a fuss.

4As one family who have been in quarantine - just get on with it. There are so many in the same position. We know of 12 families locally and there are probably 100's at home right now. It has worked, no one has caught it. Wait til the results come, they will call you. They are busy. They will advise. 14 days after contact is the rule at the mo. Patience ...

The system has been faultless up until it comes to getting your results back.
My friend who I was travelling with who lives in Hampshire got her (negative) results back within 24 hours by way of phone call from the hospital that she was tested at. Her swabs went to a laboratory in Southampton.
I think the issue in Sussex is that the swabs go to London, and then after that, nobody knows who is accountable for giving the results to the patients.
I rang Eastbourne hospital to see if they had my results, they said I have to call Public Health England, NHS 111 or my GP (which i've been doing on a daily basis). I have also been put through to Surrey and Sussex Health Protection team. All the different departments just tell you to ring the other department so you end up going round and round in circles.
We obviously understand that this is all new, so expect that there may be a few issues, but my friend in Hampshire got a phone call within 24 hours with her results, and this lady (& myself) still don't know how we will find out our results.
All we want is for it to be confirmed as to how we get our results - do we call our GP everyday or do we wait for a call from the hospital where we were tested?
