Travellers on the United Airlines Flight 901 (pictured) from San Francisco were told by the captain to stay in their seats after landing because someone might have the deadly virus. Andy West, from Henley-on-Thames, told MailOnline said they were told they could be on the runway for a while because 'seven other planes' also had suspected cases. He revealed staff on the flight took the passenger to the back of the plane without wearing any protective gear or face masks and waited for health officials to come. London has been on red alert for more cases after the capital suffered its first confirmed patient on Wednesday (shown on map, bottom right). Almost 65,000 patients around the world have now caught the virus and nearly 1,400 have died.

Coronavirus: Two MPs self-isolate after attending same conference as COVID-19 patient
Friday, February 14th, 2020 4:17pm
One of the people diagnosed with coronavirus in the UK attended a conference near parliament last week along with about 250 other delegates - including two Labour MPs who are now self-isolating themselves.

The patient, who has not been named, attended the UK Bus Summit at Westminster's QEII Centre in central London on 6 February.

The event was described as the "premier bus event covering all parts of the UK".

Speakers and attendees included "key decision makers in government from around the UK" as well as bus and coach industry representatives.

Among the speakers listed were buses minister, Baroness Vere; junior transport minister, Nusrat Ghani - who lost her job in this week's government reshuffle; and various managing directors of bus firms.

Labour MP Alex Sobel revealed he was among the attendees of the summit and is now self-isolating himself after hearing about the presence of a coronavirus patient through media reports...

The unnamed passenger was reportedly isolated at the back of the plane, but staff dealing with the incident were not said to be wearing face masks or protective clothing.

Other passengers were later released from the plane, but Andy West, from Henley-on-Thames, told Sky News that they were not given any advice about what to do next.

Public Health England have so far declined to comment on the individual case

[h=2]HOURS of misery in coronavirus lockdown at Heathrow: Passengers tell how family of eight from Malaysia were screened off by staff in hazmat suits aboard one of EIGHT flights quarantined simultaneously[/h]
  • British Airways flight from Kuala Lumpur was held up on the tarmac for two hours when it landed at 6.45am
  • Health workers in hazmat came on board the BA34 flight and set up a privacy tent around 'family of eight'
  • United Airlines Flight 901 from San Francisco locked down at 9am this morning after landing at the airport
  • Captain reportedly told passengers there was a suspected case on board theirs and seven other planes

Excerpt:
MailOnline understands a British Airways flight from Kuala Lumpur was held up on the tarmac for two hours when it landed at 6.45am after cabin crew grew concerned a Malaysian family 'of around eight' might have the contagious infection, now named SARS-CoV-2.
-snip-
A passenger on the BA34 flight from Kuala Lumpur told MailOnline: 'A family of around eight took ill at the back of the plane. Health workers in hazmats put up a screen around them and took everyone else off row by row.

'The other passengers were given health forms as they waited to get off the plane - it was on the tarmac for about two hours. But it's quite surprising that no one was tested before they got on the flight and when they landed.

QUESTION: Wouldn't it be better to quarantine a plane passenger to the FRONT of the plane. That way anything aerosol wouldn't be flying around to the folks in front of them? (I know they'll hopefully have a mask on, at that point, but ALL precautions should be taken).

Interesting thought - so I had a look around. It seems the air circulation is divided up into seat sections and you breathe a 50% new and 50% recycled brew with a segment of your fellow passengers. They also have Hepa filters built into the system - and every article I have read suggests that you are at a much greater risk of contamination by touching something rather than breathing it in. ;) Keep your hand sanitizer handy.

This might also explain why they only track people in rows near to confirmed passengers. Thanks Readymom - good question.

Doctor’s surgery in Portsmouth closed over suspected coronavirus infection
James Hockaday
Friday 14 Feb 2020 9:49 pm

A GP practice in Portsmouth has been put on lockdown after a woman with suspected coronavirus visited for a check-up. Several patients were ordered to leave Kingston Crescent Surgery at 4.30pm this afternoon due to an ’emergency’. It is understood the alarm was raised over a woman who had recently flown into Gatwick Airport who has now gone to hospital for tests...

I know someone who has recently flown into Gatwick - from Asia - and there was no obvious information at the airport - or provided by the airline - that stated you should telephone ahead if you subsequently became unwell. It is hardly surprising that people are just showing up at surgeries - probably not wanting to make a fuss.

4As one family who have been in quarantine - just get on with it. There are so many in the same position. We know of 12 families locally and there are probably 100's at home right now. It has worked, no one has caught it. Wait til the results come, they will call you. They are busy. They will advise. 14 days after contact is the rule at the mo. Patience ...

Another comment:
The system has been faultless up until it comes to getting your results back.
My friend who I was travelling with who lives in Hampshire got her (negative) results back within 24 hours by way of phone call from the hospital that she was tested at. Her swabs went to a laboratory in Southampton.
I think the issue in Sussex is that the swabs go to London, and then after that, nobody knows who is accountable for giving the results to the patients.
I rang Eastbourne hospital to see if they had my results, they said I have to call Public Health England, NHS 111 or my GP (which i've been doing on a daily basis). I have also been put through to Surrey and Sussex Health Protection team. All the different departments just tell you to ring the other department so you end up going round and round in circles.
We obviously understand that this is all new, so expect that there may be a few issues, but my friend in Hampshire got a phone call within 24 hours with her results, and this lady (& myself) still don't know how we will find out our results.
All we want is for it to be confirmed as to how we get our results - do we call our GP everyday or do we wait for a call from the hospital where we were tested?
