Coronavirus cases in Ecuador, April 28 11h00: 24258 infected and 871 deceased
Ecuador
April 28, 2020 - 11h18

Quito -

This morning, the Minister of Government, Mar?a Paula Romo, together with the Deputy Minister of Health, Xavier Sol?rzano and authorities of the Military Geographic Institute reported on the figures of the COVID-19 pandemic in Ecuador and the decisions that are being taken regarding the taking of tests, equipment and hospital capacity and circulation restriction measures.

Previously, Sol?rzano explained that the diagnosis is made by molecular biology tests (PCR) and, when these tests are positive, it is clear and definitive that the person is infected, without a doubt. For this reason, since yesterday, the database began to be published only with the positive results of the PCR tests, "However, it should be noted that thousands of rapid tests have been carried out," he added.

"We are adding to the national total the number of rapid tests that have also been taken and registered, this is what should be done, it is the right thing ... the cases reported by provinces are the real and effective cases, definitive diagnoses (tests PCR), in each province ... that does not mean that there are no more infected people, because not everyone can access the test, but this is a valuable and important indicator, "added Sol?rzano.

With a cutoff at 11:00 am, this Tuesday, April 28, the number of infected is 24,258 and 871 deaths, although there are 1,212 deaths likely due to the virus.

Of the infected, 1643 people have been discharged from hospital. There are about 1,189 recovered, 26,703 have been discarded. To date, 64,558 samples have been taken.

Contagion

Referring to the 60% of infections that would occur in 120 days, as of February 29, when the first positive case was reported in Ecuador, Sol?rzano said that the figures will decrease, as long as mobility is avoided and, therefore, the population is called to stay at home.

"If we contain the spread, we are not going to get to those numbers, what we do is use the time and spread the risk over a much longer time ... getting to herd immunity in the short term can be catastrophic," he added. .

Municipalities

Tomorrow, the COE - N meets with the Association of Municipalities of Ecuador (AME) for the delivery of reports, prior to handling the color changes at the traffic light, from October 4. Romo insisted that it is not a matter of delegating powers to the municipalities, but that they take charge of defining the restrictions for activities in their cantons.

Government Report: 24,934 positive cases for COVID-19 and 900 deaths
Drafting Thursday, 30 April 2020 - 11:18
Hosted by:

According to the latest government report this Thursday, April 30, 2020, the death toll from coronavirus rose to 900 in Ecuador, where there are 24,934 infected.

There are, in addition, 1,453 probable deaths due to COVID-19 in the country, according to a virtual appearance indicated by Mar?a Paula Romo, Minister of Government.

So far 69,054 coronavirus samples have been taken between PCR and rapid tests.

According to official data, 27,914 cases have been ruled out, 1,806 people have been discharged from hospital and 1,558 patients have recovered.

In addition, the minister reported that since yesterday it was ordered that all hospital infrastructure works be reactivated from next week, within the pilot plan to reactivate construction. "There are hospitals very close to completion and there will be all the controls for health and safety protocols."

The national channels will not be daily, from next Monday they will be held in the late afternoon on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The data will be published on the website of the Ministry of Health, announced Minister Romo.

According to a new methodology in the report of data on the coronavirus implemented since last Monday, the Government offers by provinces figures only derived from the PCR tests.

Ecuador is preparing to put into operation the epidemiological "traffic light" system, devised as a strategy for the gradual lifting and regulation of confinement restrictions by COVID-19.

Thus, on May 4, a new phase will begin in the fight against the pandemic in the country, with the application of a strategy of social "distancing", which seeks to resume some work activities.

According to the president of Ecuador, Len?n Moreno, the phase change will depend on the decision of each local government (municipalities), whose evaluation will determine the color of the traffic light (red, yellow or green) that will be emitted.

On Monday, the Government Minister, Mar?a Paula Romo, announced that no locality in the country was, at the moment, thinking of completely lifting prevention measures.

Government Report: 26,336 positive cases for COVID-19 and 1,063 deaths
Drafting Friday, 01 May 2020 - 11:10

The death toll from coronavirus rose to 1,063 in Ecuador, where there are 26,336 infected, according to official figures revealed this Friday by the Minister of Government, Mar?a Paula Romo.

1,606 probable deaths from COVID-19 are also listed in official records.

So far 71,950 coronavirus samples have been taken between PCR and rapid tests.

In addition, 1,913 patients have recovered and 1,886 have been discharged from hospital. 29,226 cases have been ruled out.

According to the official report, of the confirmed cases, 20,988 are stable in home isolation and 337 are hospitalized in stable conditions, while 149 remain admitted with reserved prognosis.

The Vice Minister of Health, Xavier Sol?rzano reported that Ecuador reports a decrease in confirmed daily coronavirus cases. "The good news is that you are seeing a decrease in the number of cases that have appeared in recent days, without this meaning that the situation has passed, but at least the transmission speed has decreased."

Regarding deaths, Minister Romo indicated that it is not that the figures do not match those issued by the Civil Registry, what happens is they give different information. Those of the Ministry of Health are those of how many people have been tested, how many have tested positive and of that group how many have died. While the death figures provided by the Civil Registry are also official and with a daily cut, which helps to have a broader view of the gravity of the situation in the country.

On the other hand, Minister Romo commented that it is expected that on May 1, 2020 there will be many exchanges with the cantonal COE. "This 48 hours after Ecuador enters the 'new normal', a stage of social distancing." In addition, he said that five municipalities have already communicated the color in which they have decided to be for now.

Home services of technical arrangements will already be activated from Monday, May 4, Romo clarified. "So people can solve problems such as water leaks or electrical failures that may have been recorded in previous days."

Ecuador is preparing to put into operation the epidemiological "traffic light" system, devised as a strategy for the gradual lifting and regulation of confinement restrictions by COVID-19.

Thus, on May 4, a new phase will begin in the fight against the pandemic in the country, with the application of a social "distancing" strategy, with which it seeks to resume some work activities.

The phase change will depend on the decision of each local government (municipalities), whose evaluation will determine the color of the traffic light (red, yellow or green) to be emitted.

In a virtual appearance, Romo explained that the number of deaths from COVID-19 varied in relation to Friday (when they totaled 1,063 deaths) once certain probable cases were confirmed.

The minister noted that 2,132 patients have recovered, that there are 1,942 cases of hospital discharge and 6,218 with epidemiological discharge, while 30,170 cases have been ruled out, according to official figures.

In the information by provinces, based solely on PCR tests, Guayas has 11,695 infected, followed by Pichincha (1,593), Los R?os (903), Manab? (799), El Oro (575), Azuay (505), Ca?ar (328) , while the rest of the provinces have less than 300 cases each.

Among the positives, men registered higher contagion (55%) and by age group, 59.6% corresponded to the range of 20 to 49 years, followed by 50 to 64 years, with 23.9%.

Next Monday, Ecuador will start a new phase in the context of the health emergency due to the pandemic in the country, with the application of a strategy of social "distancing", replacing "social isolation", with the aim of resuming some work activities.

According to the president of Ecuador, Len?n Moreno, the phase change will depend on the decision of each local government (municipalities), whose evaluation will determine the color of the traffic light (red, yellow or green) that will be emitted.

Romo assured this Saturday that he has received the decision of 82 municipalities to start in red next Monday, while awaiting the position of another 140 municipalities.

On his side, the Health Minister, Juan Carlos Zevallos, recalled in the virtual press conference that the case of the handling of certain bodies is under investigation at one of the most critical moments of the pandemic, a few weeks ago, in Guayaquil, the city hardest hit by disease in the country.

Regarding the people who have died and whose bodies have not yet been recovered by their relatives, Romo commented that the Police supports the Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences Service "to carry out an identification as quickly as possible and to be able to respond individually to each family "

And he agreed with Zevallos that "one of the consequences of the overflow of public and private hospitals, of the number of people who had deaths at home, of the hours that funeral services and cemeteries were not working, was also that the capacities for the morgues hospitals were overwhelmed. "

"Then ... refrigerated containers were used to store the bodies. We have some pending identifications," Romo said without further details.

Ecuador cleared 2,461 duplicate cases of COVID-19 from the epidemiological registry
By: EFE / Published: 06.05.2020
Deceased in the province of Guayas, in Ecuador / REPRODUCTION

The vice minister of Public Health, Xavier Sol?rzano, in a radio and television message, indicated that the reduction in the official figures of confirmed cases for COVID-19 is due to a process of purging the database used since the registration began of the pandemic on February 29, when the first positive case of the disease was announced.

The Ecuadorian government cleaned 2,461 COVID-19 test records, which appeared in its epidemiological database, but which corresponded to duplicate cases, as confirmed by Deputy Minister of Public Health, Xavier Sol?rzano, on Wednesday.

The official, in a radio and television message, indicated that the reduction in the official figures of confirmed cases for COVID-19 is due to a process of purging the database used since the registration of the pandemic began last 29 February, when the first positive case of the disease was announced.

Thus, Sol?rzano justified the differences and inconsistencies registered in today's epidemiological bulletin, compared to those of last Monday.

Among the data that was reported last Monday "to those published today, there is a difference of less than 2,461 cases," said the vice minister.

And it is that last Monday 31,881 confirmed cases of coronavirus were reported in the country, with 1,569 deaths; while today the volume of positives fell to 28,420, although the death toll rose to 1,618.

The difference is due to patients who had had two or three sample records, but which corresponded to a single person, Sol?rzano explained when reporting that the new tabulation has also been refined thanks to the incorporation of a new technological platform.

"Our commitment is to report in the most timely, trustworthy and transparent way," said the official, insisting that the country now has a "more efficient" data processing system.

He recalled that "nobody in the world was prepared for this pandemic" and that Ecuador, like other countries, "we have been learning along the way."

And he did not rule out the possibility of new readjustments in data processing, but said he was confident that in the future they will not be significant.

According to the latest official report, Ecuador today registered 1,618 deaths confirmed by COVID-19 and another 1,628 “probable deceased”, as they did not have forensic certainty of the cause of the deaths.

In addition, 29,420 positive cases for COVID-19 have been registered, 3,433 recovered patients, 14,908 stable patients in home isolation, 369 hospitalized in a stable situation and 156 admitted to medical centers with a reserved prognosis.

Likewise, 6,644 positive cases were epidemiologically discharged and 2,292 were discharged from hospitals.

The province of Guayas, whose capital is Guayaquil, encompasses the highest number of infections, with 12,411 cases, and of deceased, with 720.

They are followed by the province of Pichincha, whose capital is Quito, with 1,913 positive cases and 93 deaths; and Manab? with 1,046 confirmed patients for COVID-19 and 209 who died of this disease.

Ecuador reports 3,359 deaths from coronavirus among confirmed and probable and exceeds 30,000 infected
Published:
May 7, 2020 4:20 PM GMT

The number of infected people suffered a decrease this Wednesday. The authorities reported that it was due to the purging of the statistics.

The Ecuadorian Ministry of Health reported this Thursday, May 7, that the number of deaths associated with the coronavirus pandemic amounted to 3,359, 113 more than those registered until 24 hours ago.

According to the official bulletin, of that number 1,654 are confirmed deaths and 1,705 "probable deaths by covid-19 nationwide."

Meanwhile, authorities count 30,298 positive diagnoses of coronavirus to date.

This Wednesday, there was a decrease in the number of infected, when it went from 31,881 on Monday to 29,420, that is, 2,461 fewer cases. In this regard, the Deputy Minister of Health, Xavier Sol?rzano, explained that it was due to the cleansing of the statistics.

Specifically, he said that the duplication or triplicity of results of the same person was removed from the database.

Isolated and hospitalized

Regarding the figures provided this Thursday, the Ministry of Health details that of those infected, 15,561 are in home isolation, 362 are stable hospitalized and 156 are under reserved prognosis.

The province with the highest number of cases is still Guayas, in the Costa region, with 12,577 positive diagnoses, of which 8,881 have occurred in Guayaquil, capital of this entity.

To date, 3,433 people have recovered from the disease; while 2,397 patients have been discharged from hospital.

Coronavirus cases in Ecuador, Friday, May 8, 4:00 p.m.: 28,818 confirmed, 1704 deaths
May 8, 2020 - 16h13

Quito -

The Government Minister, Mar?a Paula Romo, and the Minister of Public Health, Juan Carlos Zevallos, reported on the situation of COVID-19 in Ecuador and the decisions of the National Emergency Operations Committee (COE-N).

With a cutoff at 4:00 p.m., this Friday, May 8, the number of infected by COVID-19 in Ecuador is 28 818 and the number of deaths is 1704, although the number of probable deaths is 1777.

Of the infected, there are 3433 recovered, 2463 hospital discharge, 6854 epidemiological discharge, and 32 242 cases discarded. 82,312 samples have been taken, between PCR and rapid.

The number of infected people dropped again in -1480 cases-, Zevallos said again that the data processing system continues to adjust duplicity and triplicity of results in the same person, since the system that was used is ten years old.

With a new system or tool, the information of the VIEPI (Public Health Surveillance System) and the INSPI (National Institute of Public Health Research) was integrated so that hospitals and laboratories directly register the test results, via the web. "In the previous platform, the VIEPI and INSPI information were integrated manually through Excel files, without validation of data with the Civil Registry, which has not infrequently generated errors," added a statement from the Ministry of Health.

Stabilized curve

According to Zevallos, at the national level the figures show that a plateau with a tendency to stabilization is maintained, always using the variable symptom onset date as the element that provides greater certainty for the construction of the curve.

Damned evidence

And while the number of infected people drops, the number of dammed results goes up, for today, the dammed results of diagnostic tests add up to 21,252, as a result of subtracting from the total samples taken, those infected and discarded.

Municipalities

Furthermore, Zevallos announced that three officials from the Ministry of Health will support the Municipalities, with information on the epidemiological situation in each canton.

Daule's COE is the only one that formally, until this hour, asked to change from a red to a yellow light.

The cantonal COEs of Guayaquil and Cuenca made requests for the National COE to approve some protocols for pilot projects of productive activities that will be authorized, but with the reminder of respect for the curfew and to avoid crowds. Guayaquil asks for authorizations for the automotive and construction industries and Cuenca asked for the industrial park ...

QUITO (Reuters) - Ecuador surpassed 2,000 coronavirus deaths on Sunday after some 410 probable cases were confirmed to be deceased by contagion through an "epidemiological investigation," the health ministry said.

The number of deaths was 2,127, according to the report, which also recorded another 1,515 probable deaths from COVID-19 nationwide. However, the Government has recognized that the number of deaths from the coronavirus would be much higher than that reported in official records.

The infections totaled 29,559 on Sunday and some 3,433 people have recovered since the country registered the first case of the virus in late February, the report added.

"Once the clinical-epidemiological investigation of 410 cases has been completed, it was verified that the deaths were caused by COVID-19," the Ministry of Health said in a statement.

The cases were reclassified from "probable" to "deceased by COVID," explained the health entity.

The Ministry of Health has said that since last week it has made technical adjustments to the data processing, which is why it warned of variations in the number of infections and deaths from the disease.

Guayas province, the one hardest hit by the pandemic and where Guayaquil is located, registered some 1,059 deaths from coronavirus, according to the report.

The Government has said that it applies a verbal autopsy procedure to be able to reveal the death figures in the midst of the pandemic. The measure is adopted because a large part of the reported deaths, especially in Guayaquil, could not be linked to the outbreak because tests were not applied or the results were not obtained before death.

The Ministry of Health insisted on Friday that the figures show that "a plateau with a tendency to stabilization is always maintained, using the variable date of onset of symptoms", so the Government decided to gradually relax the strict quarantine imposed since mid-March. .

QUITO, May 11 (Xinhua) -- Ecuador on Monday reported 50 fewer cases of novel coronavirus infection than the day before, citing a change in methodology.

Confirmed cases of infection dropped to 29,509, down from 29,559 cases reported on Sunday, after officials began relying on patient identification rather than the number of positive tests.

"The new system reclassifies the registrations by people's identity card, not by the number of tests that have been done," the Public Health Ministry said in a statement...
