THREE AMAZONIAN PROVINCES WITHOUT CASES

The province of Guayas, whose capital is Guayaquil, has the highest number of infections (859), followed by Pichincha -whose capital is Quito- (99), Los R?os (40), Manab? (38) and Azuay (31).

The Galapagos Islands, located about a thousand kilometers from the Ecuadorian continental coasts, declared by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) in 1978 as Natural Heritage of Humanity, register four cases.

The only provinces that are not affected are Napo, Orellana and Zamora Chinchipe, all located in the Amazon region.

The official commented that it is not possible to speak in general of a slowdown in infections because it is a "complex moment yet, we are going through a sensitive moment in the process."

SANITARY SYSTEM

Regarding the health system, he noted that there are 9,805 beds available nationwide and 259 intensive care units established so far.

Sixty people have died so far from coronavirus and 1,962 are infected in Ecuador, where the suspension of working hours has been extended until April 5, authorities reported Monday.

According to the Government, with the only exception of the Amazonian province of Napo, the remaining 23 of the country register some case of contagion.

More than 70% of them are concentrated in the province of Guayas (1,396), followed by Pichincha (188), Los R?os (60), Azuay (57), Manab? (50) and El Oro (30), while the rest they have less than 30 cases.

Most deaths have occurred in Guayas (38), followed by Los R?os and Pichincha, with five each, among others.

Currently, there are 3,083 suspected cases of COVID-19 in Ecuador, where 2,223 cases have been ruled out.

Covid-19 deaths rise to 180 in Ecuador

Quito, Apr 5 (Prensa Latina) The number of deaths from confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Ecuador increased to 180 today, where infections also increased to 3,646.

The most recent report of the National Emergency Operations Committee (COE) also indicates that there are 5,137 people across the country suspected of carrying the new strain of coronavirus.

With a cutoff at 11:00 am, this Monday, April 6, the Vice Minister of Health, Julio L?pez, reported that there are 3,747 confirmed cases for COVID-19 and 191 deaths that tested positive, but there are 173 more deaths that are probable for the virus, in Ecuador.

In addition, 3843 patients were discarded and the number of 100 discharged persons has not changed. So far 13 039 samples have been taken.

Of the total of infected, 3066 are kept in home isolation, 234 are stable hospitalized and 156 hospitalized with reserved prognosis.

Of the confirmed deceased, 130 are in Guayas, 14 in El Oro, 10 in Pichincha, 10 in Los R?os, 5 in Azuay, 4 in Santa Elena, 3 in Manab? and in other provinces with deaths of less than 3. E

67.6% of those infected are in Guayas.

The Emerging Operations Committee (COE) updated this Tuesday the number of people infected with coronavirus in the country. There are 3,995 confirmed cases, while there have been 220 deaths from COVID-19.

There are 3,956 cases discarded and 140 people have been discharged from hospital, according to the report issued by the entity.

The COE indicated that, so far, 14,406 tests have been carried out.

Data on coronavirus cases do not agree in Azuay

In addition, to the 220 deceased, there are 182 cases of deaths due to suspected coronavirus.

Ecuador's government is preparing an emergency burial ground on land donated by a private cemetery in Guayaquil, the country's largest city, to address a shortage of burial plots as the novel coronavirus hits the Andean country hard.

As of Tuesday, the country had 3,995 confirmed cases of the coronavirus and 220 deaths, with 182 more deaths suspected of being linked to the virus. The outbreak has sparked a shortage of wooden coffins, prompting some people to bury their relatives in cardboard boxes donated by cemeteries.

Large lines of cars carrying coffins waited outside private cemeteries across the city this week, as families waited for hours for a chance to bury their deceased relatives. The outbreak has overwhelmed hospitals and emergency services, with some families keeping dead bodies in their homes for days.

The government, which last week began storing the bodies of coronavirus victims in giant refrigerated containers until graves were prepared, is aiming to bury some 100 people a day at the cemetery in northern Guayaquil, which has the capacity for some 2,000 plots.

Jorge Wated, who is coordinating the government's response to the handling of the dead, said the government was conducting burials itself and would publish a guide on the internet to ensure relatives knew where their loved ones were buried.

"At the cemetery, they will be buried person by person, without cost to the families," Wated said.

The city of Guayaquil also said it would prepare two public cemeteries with the capacity to handle some 12,000 plots.

President Lenin Moreno said last week that some 3,500 people could die from the coronavirus in Guayas province, home to 68% of the country's cases and where Guayaquil is located.

Among the dead so far have been seven nurses, according to the Guayas College of Nurses, which added that some 147 nurses had been infected and 120 had resigned for fear of contagion.
