The Ministry of Public Health (MSP) presented the official COVID-19 figures for this Monday, August 24, 2020 in Ecuador. It reported the results of 1,323 tests processed in the last 24 hours. Of these, 520 (39%) were positive, so that the confirmed cases amount to 108,289; and 803 (61%) were negative, so that the cases discarded increased to 155,720.

In the last two weeks, confirmed cases have increased faster in Imbabura (45%), Carchi (43%), and Tungurahua (35%).

With the latest MSP report, the deaths confirmed by COVID-19 rise to 6322 (12 more than yesterday); while probable deaths from the virus reach 3,664 (2 more than yesterday).

307,742 samples have been taken so far, of which 43,733 are dammed, without result. Ecuador is, along with Bolivia, the country in the region that performs the fewest tests per number of inhabitants.

The MSP reported 80,264 recovered patients last Sunday, equivalent to 81% of all cases confirmed with PCR tests. The Ministry explained that these are people who, 29 days after diagnosis, are still alive. The government will update this figure every week.

The curve of the impact of covid-19 in Ecuador reflects the record of 741 new cases of confirmed infections in the last 24 hours nationwide. The report issued by the national Emergency Operations Committee (COE) -which collects data until 08:00 this Tuesday, August 25, 2020- shows that the country reports 109,030 people infected by the virus and 10,064 deaths in the context of the pandemic.

Quito, the city most affected by the new coronavirus in Ecuador, registered 144 new infections during the last 24 hours and already amounts to 20,498.

According to government data, the capital already concentrates 19% of the total cases registered nationwide. The city also surpasses Guayaquil with 7,875 infections, since the Main Port reported a total of 12,623 infections this Tuesday. That is, an increase of 27 cases between August 24 and 25.

Deaths due to Covid-19 are also growing in Ecuador. The Ministry of Health indicates that 10,064 people have died in the context of the pandemic: 6,368 have been confirmed cases of the new coronavirus. That is, they could be detected by PCR tests. In the last 24 hours, the balance registered an increase of 46 deaths.

The Government also reports 3 696 probable deaths, that is, deaths that could not be confirmed, but which are related to respiratory failure. Since the report on Wednesday, August 24, the figure registered an increase of 32 deaths.

The province with the most registered infections is Pichincha, with 22 683. It is followed by Guayas, with 18 563. Then there are Manab?, with 8 085; Azuay, 4,891; Santo Domingo de los Ts?chilas, 4,408; El Oro, 4 215; Loja, 4 140; Esmeraldas, 3,502; Tungurahua, 3,236; Los R?os, 3 091; and Cotopaxi, 2 880.

As for the deaths confirmed by the virus, Guayas is the province where they were most registered. There are a total of 1,671. Pichincha became the second province with the most deaths, with 894, after surpassing Manab?, which currently has 870 deaths. They are followed by El Oro, with 360; Santa Elena, 339; Los R?os, 321; Chimborazo, 251; and Santo Domingo de los Ts?chilas, 298.
