Response to measles: support from the Ango/Bas-Uélé health zone announced

Kisangani, November 11, 2024 (ACP).- Doctors Without Borders (MSF) plans to provide relief to the Ango health zone, in the Bas-Uélé province, north of the Democratic Republic of Congo, following the alert on the measles epidemic in this region, ACP learned Monday from a telephone interview.
" The provincial health division in Bas-Uélé province informed us that samples of suspected cases were sent to Kinshasa for analysis and ten (10) cases were found to be positive ," said Mr. Mballo Boubakar, head of the MSF project in Kisangani, Emergency Response (KERE). He added: " We have just deployed a team on site in Ango this Monday, with the aim of investigating in order to allow us to decide whether to intervene. This will allow us to support the Ango health zone for the management of cases. In a week we will have details regarding this alert ."
It is worth noting that through the airwaves, the administrator of the territory of Ango, Marcelin Lekabusoya, declared that the measles epidemic is raging in his entity. Adults would also be affected by this epidemic in addition to children and that 243 cases of measles have been reported so far. For the moment, the territory lacks the appropriate means to support the general hospital of Ango for care, the source concluded.
All attempts to contact the interim provincial health division head for Bas-Uélé and the chief medical officer of the Ango health zone were in vain. ACP/CL
