The new civil society of the territory of Nyangara (Haut-Uélé) reported on Wednesday, March 13, that three people have died since March 3 from a disease not previously clearly identified in the locality of Nadau, located nearly 85 kilometers from the center of Nyangara.
The coordinator of the new civil society, Bienvenue Akumbano, told Radio Okapi that this disease, which is manifested by the appearance of pimples on the body, already affects about twenty people in the area.
It indicates that two of the deceased belonged to the same family and had cleaned the remains of another person who apparently died of the disease.
Without clearly identifying the disease, the doctor in charge of the Nyangara health zone maintains that it is similar to chickenpox.
The coordinator of the new civil society deplores that more than ten days after the first deaths, no provision is made by the authorities to effectively identify this disease in order to prepare a response plan.
"More than 20 cases already with two deaths, it's too much especially that the situation is not controlled. There was no evaluation mission dispatched to the field to take the samples. There were only small awareness sessions conducted by the Nurse of the health area of this entity on hygiene as part of the prevention of this disease. See well the disease is not identified and this place is a village. It risks creating a situation that we will not be able to manage later, "he regretted.
Welcome Akumbano launches an SOS:We are alerting so that the authorities can take this situation seriously for fear that we cannot record other deaths. There, there are children who are fragile. When this disease will spread to large agglomerations, it will be complicated. Even humanitarian organizations could come to soak up this situation."
But the head of the health zone says that the patients who arrive at the hospital are taken care of.:tiphat: https://www.radiookapi.net/2024/03/...s-decedent-dune-maladie-non-encore-identifiee
