Ebola in Kisangani: a woman's suspicious death reported in a commune
July 28, 2026
Kisangani, July 28, 2026 (ACP).-
A case of suspected death of a 79-year-old woman, showing signs similar to those of Ebola, has been reported in the Lindi district, in the commune of Mangobo, in Kisangani in the North-East of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the mayor of this municipality announced to ACP on Tuesday.
“ We observed worrying signs on the deceased’s body, including bleeding from several orifices such as the mouth, nose, ears and eyes. We immediately asked the neighborhood chief to prohibit any contact with the body until the intervention of the health teams ,” said Constant Bolamba Saile.
The municipal authority stated that it immediately alerted the provincial health division (DPS) and the local health zone. A team led by the zone's chief medical officer went to the site to implement the required health protocol.
Mr. Bolamba stated that he had instructed the neighborhood chief to identify and trace all individuals who had been in contact with the deceased.
This approach aims to enable medical teams to conduct thorough investigations and find the index case, if the result of the sample taken confirms the presence of the Ebola virus.
Furthermore, the mayor announced that awareness-raising efforts among residents regarding compliance with barrier and prevention measures have been strengthened in the municipality of Mangobo, in order to maintain public vigilance in the face of this health threat.
“ For our part, we are continuing to raise awareness. Every Monday, we receive journalists from local media outlets to relay prevention messages. During our field visits, we also take advantage of every encounter with residents to remind them of the danger of Ebola and call for strict adherence to the guidelines issued by health professionals ,” he emphasized.
This campaign places particular emphasis on adopting barrier gestures, avoiding risky contacts, respecting hygiene rules, and quickly alerting the relevant services in case of suspicious symptoms, such as a persistent fever.
The mayor also praised the involvement of neighborhood, block, and avenue leaders. As community liaisons, they leverage their daily interactions with residents to reinforce preventative measures and encourage community vigilance. ACP/L/Y
