Diary of a Re-Prepper

Re: Diary of a Re-Prepper

I'm curious, what is cheaper :

heating the food with oil before eating it
or
producing and eating some additional food of same energy content ?

Re: Diary of a Re-Prepper

Oil is a flavour carrier, with out it food tastes dull. Oil is an essential food prep.

I normally use other oils for cooking, but for preps I have inexpensive cooking oil with a long shelf life which I don't have to worry about rotating on a regular basis. It is kept in a cool dark place.

I am wondering how long it will really keep.

I have kept unopened bottles of oil for up to 2 years. A cool dark place will optimize storage life. I refrigerate my cooking oil once I open it.

The good thing about oil is that as it spoils, it becomes, and smells, rancid - a convenient sensory marker of degradation.
