ČESKOBUDĚJOVICKO - A new outbreak of bird flu has been confirmed in the Czech Republic after almost eight months. It is located in a small poultry farm in Horní Slovenice in Českobudějovick. The occurrence of the infection in the farm was confirmed by an examination at the State Veterinary Institute in Prague.
There were originally 30 hens in the farm. Through a private veterinarian, the breeder reported the death of ten hens to the Regional Veterinary Administration for the South Bohemian Region (KVS) on Sunday, December 31. Veterinary inspectors started an investigation at the farm, took preliminary measures and sent the dead animals to the SVÚ for examination. The hens at the time of inspection showed clinical signs of the disease and reduced laying. An investigation at SVÚ Prague today confirmed bird flu H5N1. Poultry in the aforementioned farm is raised in a brick chicken coop with a run without direct contact with wild birds. However, there are numerous ponds in the vicinity with a large number of wild ducks.
"The remaining poultry in the farm will be euthanized and subsequently disinfected by a specialist company. As in the case of last year's outbreak in Kladno, the Regional Veterinary Administration will use the opportunity given by the recent change in European legislation. They will not define closed zones around the affected breeding and will not declare emergency veterinary measures in them," said the central director of the State Veterinary Administration, Zbyněk Semerád.
The affected small farm fulfills the conditions for using the exception. The main one is the fact that the breeder does not market the poultry or its products, which means that the risk of spreading the disease from the breeding is minimal. In addition, the Czech Republic should not lose the official status of a bird flu-free country, which is important for the international trade in poultry and its products. The regional veterinary administration will closely monitor the infectious situation in the area. In cooperation with the fire brigade, he will inform breeders and municipalities in the area...
