With the detection of 49 new cases this Saturday, April 18, Cuba exceeds the 1,000 infected as those diagnosed with COVID-19 in Cuba rose to 1,035, according to the usual press conference of the Ministry of Public Health (Minsap ).

According to Doctor Francisco Dur?n Garc?a, national director of Epidemiology of the Minsap, all the confirmed cases were Cuban. Of these, 24 were women for 48.9% and 25 men (51.0%). Of the total number of diagnosed cases (49), the most affected age groups were: those under 40 years of age with 23 cases (46.9%), followed by the group of 40 to 60 years with 19 cases (38.7%). 51.0% (25) of the positive cases were asymptomatic.

Sometimes they are not entirely asymptomatic, but pre-symptomatic, because at the time of diagnosis they do not manifest symptoms but at a later time they develop them. There are even people who never developed symptoms in the course of the disease, said the expert.

Doctor Dur?n assured that he is planning to carry out massive studies by population segments, taking into account the ages and the presence of risk pathologies.

He also explained that for a month now all people who die from a respiratory condition have been studied to determine whether or not they had COVID-19 and we have been giving the figures in these parts. All people with acute respiratory manifestations requiring hospitalization undergo real-time PCR testing to detect or rule out the disease.

Doctor Dur?n explained that Cuba already has a virtual online researcher, which results in a greater knowledge of the Cuban epidemiological scenario. Based on these data, the local Health personnel can take the appropriate measures, which joins the landscapes in the community ...
