KINSHASA — Chloe climbs out of his yellow minibus taxi to admonish a mob of commuters crowding the pavement in Democratic Republic of Congo’s capital, where authorities are trying to prevent overcrowding to fight the coronavirus.

“Ten people, ten people,” he shouts, to little effect, as the crowd swarms around the door.

Applying concepts like social distancing, where people avoid crowds and close personal contact, has proved difficult in even the most advanced economies.

But in Kinshasa, a chaotic city of 12 million people who mostly live in tightly packed dwellings and travel like sardines in shared taxis, it’s an even taller order.

Kinshasa has recorded 45 coronavirus cases since March 10, straining scarce health resources in one of the world’s poorest countries...

The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Congo recently published the report on the epidemiological situation of the coronavirus in this country of Central Africa. It appears that 4 new people have tested positive, thereby increasing the balance from 41 to 49 cases in just 48 hours.

Central Africa has seen an increase in Covid-19 positive cases in recent weeks. This is the case in Congo Brazzaville where the last epidemiological report on the Covid-19 revealed that 4 new people are affected. This new wave has been identified in the last 48 hours.

Thus the current assessment brings to 50 the number of people contaminated by the Coronavirus with Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire where there are respectively 36 and 13. According to said report, this number of infections could have been higher if the Congolese government had not not very early ordered the complete closure of the borders.

To anticipate yet another wave of cases, Gilbert Ndziessi, coordinator of the response to the Covid-19 announced that a device is in place to map potential patients who are in one way or another contacted with the 49 cases already identified positive on the country. In summary, the Congo has to date 3 people died against 2 healed out of the 49 positive cases. ...

Posted on 08.04.2020 at 10h51 by journaldebrazza.com

Let us adopt barrier gestures against the coronavirus.
According to the latest assessment, the Republic of Congo records 60 confirmed cases of coronavirus, 05 dead and 05 cured.

The Ministry of Health recently announced 11 new cases and 3 cures of Covid-19. This brings the assessment to 60 cases recorded 5 healings and 5 deaths. A result which worries the government, because the disease is increasing.

The government insists once again on the respect of the measures taken in particular to avoid any assembly, to remain confined at home and especially the respect of the rules of hygiene to know to wash the hands with soap and water, to disinfect the hands and also wear surgical masks.

Several other measures had been instituted by the Head of State, Denis Sassou N’Guesso, notably the restriction of travel until April 30, 2020.

he epidemiological update of April 19 reports 17 new cases of contamination and 6 patients with coronavirus (Covid-19) discharged from the hospital, bringing the number of confirmed cases to 160 and cured to 16.

Among the 17 new cases, 9 were recorded in Pointe-Noire, 5 in Brazzaville and 3 in the department of Kouilou.

"These are the people who have been in contact with the Covid-19 carriers," explained the national technical coordinator for the response to the Covid-19, Dr. Gilbert Ndziessi, adding that the tracking of contact persons is underway for a subsequent care.

No death has been recorded in the past two days, so the number has not changed at 6 people.

The distribution of contaminated cases by department is as follows: Brazzaville 103, Pointe-Noire 50, Kouilou 3, Pool 2, Cuvette 1 and Sangha 1. In other departments no samples have been recorded so far.

It is recalled that the Chinese billionaire Jack Ma offered, for the second time, to the Republic of Congo products and materials aimed at fighting against the Covid-19. The same gesture was made by the World Health Organization (WHO-Africa) and the United Nations Development Program.

These different donations will speed up screenings in administrations and other places with high concentration. All localities in the Congo will be affected by Covid-19 screening, a way of containing the pandemic in order to eradicate it.

These products received by the government were automatically transported by the vehicles of the World Food Program to the various departments of the Congo where the prefects will distribute them.

These are, in fact, syringes, safety boxes for needles, examination gloves, hoods, sprayers, hydroalcoholic gels, protective glasses, protective aprons, surgical caps, cotton swabs, garbage bags, infrared thermometers, non-sterile gowns, face shields, protective masks and many more.
