Wednesday, the Tompkins County Health Department announced a second case of swine flu had been confirmed in the county. New cases of the illness are no longer being reported to the New York State Department of Health, now it is known the virus is in the community, according to the health department.
"We know that H1N1 is in Tompkins County. Our focus now is to look for patterns of illness in the community with the goal of limiting the spread of this influenza," said Alice Cole, Tompkins County Health Department Public Health director.

(The students) had flu-like symptoms over the weekend and were not in class this week. They were tested on Monday (6/1) and the cases were confirmed Thursday (6/4) afternoon. Letters went out to every parent in the district.
Superintendent Robert Dubik, citing privacy laws, would not reveal the students' classroom, age or grade. He did say that they are in separate grades and are not related. There is no indication that the children's' parents have traveled recently, Dubik said.
The two children could return to school as early as next week, though they'll be required to see the school nurse before they are allowed in the classroom, Dubik said.
No cases have been confirmed in the middle school or high school.
