• For the week ending 11/13, there was one additional influenza-associated hospitalization confirmed. A cumulative total of 3 hospitalizations from three counties have been confirmed this season.
• Influenza-Like Illness level reported by Kaiser Permanente for the Denver-Boulder metropolitan area remained at a relatively low level (0.8%).
• Sentinel hospital labs (15/17 reporting) tested 201 specimens and 0.5% were positive. There were three additional specimens (out of 23 submitted) that tested positive for influenza A (H3) by PCR at the state laboratory and cumulatively 10 (91%) of 11 PCR positive specimens have subtyped as H3. The vast majority of specimens being submitted to the state laboratory for PCR testing are still not confirming by PCR.

Influenza-like Illness levels reported by Kaiser Permanente for the Denver-Boulder
metropolitan area showed a sharp increase
during the week ending January 22nd from 1.2% to
2.0%, which continued to steeply increase to 2.7% during most current week. Influenza-like
Illness levels reported by Mesa County also increased steeply from 0.7% to 1.2%.

indicates: H3N2 – 46%; 2009 H1N1 – 39%; Type B – 15%.

Missouriwatcher has provided links to the Colorado Week 5 charts, so I don't want to post them all here. The links above take you directly to the charts. I did, however, want to point out that the hospitalization chart (first link) indicates that H3N2 is decreasing (assuming many of the unsubtyped A samples are pH1N1), pH1N1 is increasing along with Influenza B. This pattern seems to be happening in a lot of places, except in places like Alabama and Louisiana where Influenza B has been dominant.
