Li Wenliang: I am undergoing standard treatment in the Respiratory and Intensive Medicine Unit. It is a four-person isolation ward. Currently, I only have two people and can use my mobile phone to keep in touch with the outside world.
I am usually taken care of by doctors and nurses. The nurses help me wipe my face and body every day.
I heard from the doctor today (30th) that my nucleic acid test result has turned negative, but this is the result of a throat swab, and I don't think it represents alveoli.
It will take some time for the lung function to recover, but it is still difficult to breathe, always needs a high flow of oxygen, and I can't eat too much.
Caixin Reporter: The public is very concerned about your "7 cases of SARS diagnosis" in the group chat. What was the situation then?
Li Wenliang: I sent it out to a group of about 150 students. At that time, I also emphasized that we should not spread the word, mainly to remind students in clinical work to pay attention to protection.

Around January 8th, I admitted myself to such patients.
At that time, a patient in our ophthalmology department was admitted to the hospital with acute angle-closure glaucoma, and his appetite was poor on that day, but his temperature was normal.
At first, we didn't think about it elsewhere. Later, her glaucoma had normal IOP, and she still had poor appetite the next day. She had a fever at noon. A CT scan of her lungs suggested that she had “viral pneumonia”. All other indicators were consistent. Unexplained criteria for pneumonia.
The family who took care of her that night also had a fever, and her other daughter also had a fever, which was obvious from person to person.
We immediately reported to the Medical Office and the Hospital Sense Office. We invited the expert group in the hospital for consultation. After the consultation, we recommended that the patients be treated in our department for isolation.
Three days later, we re-examined him for CT, and the result was still "viral pneumonia", and the scope expanded and the condition became worse. Then the patient was transferred to the respiratory medical isolation ward, and I didn't know the situation later.
Caixin Reporter: Since there has been a "person-to-person" situation at that time, why are there so few confirmed cases?
Li Wenliang: It was estimated that the diagnosis was difficult at that time, and the kit had not yet come out.
However, there is no kit for nucleic acid detection, but it is more cumbersome and time consuming, and I don't know the specific process.
At the time when our hospital expert team consulted the previous patient, they also said that they could not decide whether to do the test or not.
At that time, the clinical diagnosis was basically carried out by excluding other causes, such as the specific manifestations of CT, conventional treatment was ineffective, white blood cells were not high, and lymphocytes were reduced. These are all reference indicators.
Caixin Reporter: Is your own infection related to this patient?
Li Wenliang: At the beginning, the patient did not have fever, and I took care to prevent it.
As a result, the day the patient turned away, I started to cough, and the next day began to have fever. At this time, I started to wear a N95 mask for protection.
On January 12, I checked the respiratory tract virus and performed a CT scan. I was highly suspected to be New Crown Virus pneumonia and was hospitalized.
Colleagues in the same department also had infections a day or two later, and my parents had symptoms and were hospitalized one after another three or four days after me.
Later, I experienced a worsening of my condition, and now I am taking antibiotics, antivirals, globulin, and oxygen.
Caixin reporter: Do you have to pay for these treatments yourself?
Li Wenliang: I bought the immunoglobulins at my own expense, some were delivered by drugstores, and some were bought by classmates.
I have spent 50,000 to 60,000 yuan up to now. I don't know if I can get reimbursed.
Some companies have launched a rescue plan for medical staff infections. They originally planned to apply, but if the nucleic acid result is negative, it may not work.
Caixin Reporter: You mentioned that you had emphasized in the group that you should n’t take screenshots, but they still spread. What do you think?
Li Wenliang: That night, many people asked me with screenshots on WeChat. Moreover, their screenshots are not complete. Originally, after "7 cases of SARS were diagnosed," I emphasized that this is a coronavirus, and it is still being typed, but these screenshots are not available.
Seeing this, I feel like I'm going to die, and I might be punished.

Caixin reporter: Have you been punished since then?
Li Wenliang: It was this screenshot that was passed out that night (December 31) at 1:30 in the morning, the Wuhan Health and Medical Committee met overnight, and I was mainly called by the head of our hospital to inquire about the situation.
After dawn, I was interviewed by the Hospital Supervision Department again. I still asked me about the situation, the source, the process and whether I realized the mistake.
I didn't expect the police to find me behind.
On January 3, they called me to the police station to sign the "Admonishment Book". I had never dealt with the police before. I was also worried at the time. .
I didn't tell my family about this. At that time, there was a lot of pressure. I was worried about the hospital's punishment, which would affect my future job promotion.
Later, one of my classmates knew and helped introduce the reporter. I told them directly about the situation.
Caixin Reporter: The police first reported on January 1, saying that eight rumors had been summoned, and you were called to the police station on January 3? Does this mean that you are treated outside of these eight people?
Li Wenliang: This is not clear. I am not sure. What you said is also possible. I just want to recover soon.
Caixin Reporter: The "Course Book" written by the police is to make false statements on the Internet. At that time, some people thought you were making rumors. What do you think?
