In a statement the Ministry of Health clarifies that of these nine cases, seven are confirmed case contacts and two were confirmed confirmed cases.

"The confirmed cases of disease are, at the moment, stable and all are in isolation", according to the Ministry of Health, who adds that "positive cases of covid-19 have not been identified in any other municipality in the country in the last 72 hours".

In the meantime, the investigation continues to investigate flaws in the application of the protocol in the case of the Chinese diagnosed with the new coronavirus on the island of S?o Vicente.

Several experts say that it could be a false positive case of Covid-19, but the national director of Health, Artur Correia, dismisses this possibility with the quality of the tests carried out in Cape Verde.

"In total, the Virology Laboratory [of the National Institute of Public Health] has already carried out 791 tests. It is a relatively large number, even taking into account the number of confirmed cases that we have", said the minister.

During the press conference, in Praia, to take stock of the daily situation of the new coronavirus in the country, Arlindo do Ros?rio said that the tests are being carried out not only for suspected cases, but also for all contacts, "to catch more people with possible symptoms ".

"We are expanding the range of people to be covered by tests," continued the minister, informing that, in addition to the PCR tests (acronym for polymerase chain reaction, which is the most complex test for covid-19), the authorities will proceed to the rapid tests.

"(...) The rapid test is not diagnostic, but it will allow us to have an idea in epidemiological terms of the circulation of the virus in a given community, hence it will be directed at vulnerable groups, in order to make a screening of the situation", he maintained .

At the same press conference, the national director of Health, Artur Correia, reaffirmed that the rate of contagion in Cape Verde is "very low", when compared to other countries, so it should be necessary about 80 thousand tests in the country.

In the morning, in a statement to the country on health prevention and civil protection measures after a state of emergency, the Cape Verdean Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, announced that the country will have around 50,000 tests available in the next few years. weeks to extend testing of the new coronavirus screening.

The head of the Government did not say where the tests will be purchased, but the national director of Health said that its extension should comply with the availability limits in the country, to go beyond the scope of its use in suspected cases, but also to other groups.

On Wednesday, during a debate in parliament, the Cape Verdean Minister of Health stated that the country had already tested 342 cases since the covid-19 pandemic appeared and until that day, and that the "trend is for extend "that testing.

According to the official, for the 342 cases - which included 141 suspects and 191 "asymptomatic contacts" of confirmed cases - it was necessary to carry out about 1,500 tests, given the need to repeat several, which proved inconclusive.

Cape Verde now counts 88 cases of covid-19, spread over the islands of Boa Vista (54), Santiago (33), between Praia (capital), Tarrafal and S?o Domingos, and S?o Vicente (1).

One of these cases, a 62-year-old English tourist - the first diagnosed with the disease in the country, on March 19 -, ended up dying in Boa Vista, while another of the patients has already been reported to have recovered.

Since Saturday, a second period of state of emergency has been in effect, with inter-island connections and the general obligation of containment suspended, in addition to the ban on international flights.

The declaration of the current state of emergency provides for the islands of Boa Vista, Santiago and S?o Vicente, all with cases of covid-19, which will remain in effect until 24:00 on May 2. In the remaining six inhabited islands, with no diagnosed cases of covid-19, the extension of the state of emergency is shorter, until 24:00 on Sunday.

This is a great opportunity to work with a great team of professionals.
Text by: Odair Santos

The Cape Verde Ministry of Health and Social Security today reported two more cases of covid-19 in the country, increasing the number of people infected in the country with the new coronavirus to 90.

The new cases are registered in the city of Praia and in the municipality of Tarrafal, all on the island of Santiago. In a statement the Ministry of Health and Social Security said that of the 60 samples analyzed, two were positive for covid-19, 53 were negative and five are still pending.

On the other hand, due to the community contamination that occurs in the city of Praia, several sectors of society have posed the possibility of isolating the country's capital, but the Minister of Internal Administration, Paulo Rocha, considers the implementation of a cordon to be “extremely complex” in the city of Praia.

The Minister of Internal Administration, Paulo Rocha, through videoconference from the island of Boa Vista, also recalls that there are thousands of people who need to go to Praia every day.

But there are also others who need to leave the capital to go to the interior of the island of Santiago, for work, supplying markets and purchasing basic goods.

Two doctors from Hospital Agostinho Neto in Praia are on the list of 109 infected with the new coronavirus in Cape Verde. The announcement was made by the National Director of Health, Artur Correia, without specifying the professional category of those infected.

?I confirm that there are two health professionals who were detected the covid-19 virus in one of yesterday's exams, they are doctors who work at the Hospital Agostinho Neto?, he merely indicated the person responsible.

Some of the health professionals who work with the two doctors who have tested positive for covid-19 are already being tested, according to health authorities.

On the other hand, six of the nine inhabited islands of the archipelago, with no record of positive cases of covid-19, today saw the State of Emergency lifted. However, some restrictions remain, namely the ban on international air and sea connections and inter-islands, the ban on the operation of nightlife spaces, gyms, gyms, martial arts schools and the like. Visits to nursing homes, hospitals and prisons also remain limited.

The Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva recalls that the population must continue to take measures to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus. ?The virus will not disappear from one moment to the next. That is why it is necessary to continue with measures of social distance and measures of individual protection to avoid new contagions and the spread or uncontrolled situation of the spread of the virus ?, declared the head of the Cape Verde government.

It should be noted that in the economic field, Banco de Cabo Verde made estimates on the impact of this crisis on the country. According to this entity, a fall in the economy of 4 to 6.1% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is expected this year, after the country recorded a growth of the order of 5.7% last year.

“The mask will become a piece of clothing. The use of chloroquine is advocated by the presidents of the United States and Brazil, but rejected by the medical community in some countries because there is no scientific proof of its effectiveness.
