Among the cases for which the sex is known (n=754, 99%), t
here are 748 men, 4 women and
2 people who identify themselves differently. The age of the vast majority of them is
between 16 and 71 years old.
One case has been reported in a child less than three years old.
Symptom information is known for 670 individuals (89%). Almost all
patients (96%) presented with skin lesions, which were mainly in the
anal-genital region (n=437, 65%). About 56% had general symptoms such as
fever, general malaise, etc. Thirty-nine of the 670 people (6%) for whom
information is known were hospitalized, 28 due to the treatment (four of them
had an underlying immune disorder), 3 because home isolation was not
possible, and 8 for which the reason was unknown.
To date, one death has been reported in
a person with underlying health conditions.
Based on current data on presumptive transmission (n=562), it appears that the
virus is mainly transmitted by sexual contact (92%).
Among all cases, 152 (20%) were able to identify a specific contact with another case
confirmed.
Most people for whom information is available (538/651, 83%) had
an idea of where the suspected context where the infection was transmitted. sexual contact
in the private context were mentioned most often (295/538, 55%). About one
one in six (n=78, 14%) participated in a major national or international event,
during which there was sexual contact. Sex saunas or other places that facilitate
sexual contacts were identified by 119 men (22%). Attendance at a party
cleaning, or other activity without sexual relations was reported for 45 people (8%).
In the latter context, transmission may have taken place from person to person, through a
very close contact, but not sexual. While at first the infection was mainly reported
through sexual contact at major events, recently more cases related to
sexual contacts in the private sphere are reported.
Note that the collection and interpretation of this data is limited by the fact that it is
very sensitive information.
