British Columbia is changing which data it releases about COVID-19 in its daily reports on the pandemic, the province's top doctor announced Wednesday.

In the coming days, the province will stop reporting numbers for "active cases" and "recoveries" in its daily pandemic updates and on the B.C. Centre for Disease Control dashboard, provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said.

Henry described the change as yet another byproduct of the way the province's response to COVID-19 has adapted due to the Omicron variant.

"We'll be modifying our surveillance reports and looking at what are the important things that we need to monitor and what is the time frame that we need to monitor those in?" the provincial health officer said...

The number of COVID-19-positive patients in B.C. hospitals continued to decline Thursday, dropping to 867 in the latest update from the provincial Ministry of Health.

That total includes both people whose coronavirus infection is serious enough that they require hospitalization and people who were admitted to hospital for other reasons and tested positive incidentally.

There are 138 people in intensive care units with COVID-19, according to the ministry.

Thursday's update also included five more deaths attributed to the coronavirus, bringing B.C.'s total for the pandemic to 2,730...

COVID-19: B.C. reports 17 deaths, fewest cases in hospital since mid-January

British Columbia reported another 17 COVID-19-related deaths on Friday, as the number of people in hospital fell to its lowest point in more than three weeks.

Health officials reported 846 positive cases in hospitals, an overnight drop of 21, including 136 people in critical or intensive care.

B.C. officials confirmed another 1,245 new cases, however daily case counts no longer provide an accurate metric of the virus’ spread due to testing limitations. The province stopped releasing a daily count of active cases on Thursday, citing similar reasoning...

As of Monday, Feb. 14, 2022, 90.4% (4,506,205) of eligible people five and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 85.3% (4,249,831) have received their second dose.

In addition, 93.1% (4,315,735) of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, 90.5% (4,193,878) received their second dose and 52.7% (2,443,314) have received a third dose.

Also, 93.5% (4,042,312) of all eligible adults in B.C. have received their first dose, 90.9% (3,932,861) received their second dose and 55.3% (2,391,138) have received a third dose.

Over a three-day period, B.C. is reporting 2,701 new cases of COVID-19, for a total of 341,286 cases in the province:

  • Feb. 12-13: 883 new cases
  • Feb. 13-14: 667 new cases

As of Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2022, 90.5% (4,513,284) of eligible people five and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 86.0% (4,284,366) have received their second dose.

In addition, 93.2% (4,320,374) of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, 90.6% (4,201,165) have received their second dose, and 55.0% (2,549,270) have received a third dose.

Also, 93.6% (4,046,424) of all eligible adults in B.C. have received their first dose, 91.1% (3,939,165) have received their second dose, and 57.1% (2,470,565) have received a third dose.

B.C. is reporting 799 new cases of COVID-19 today, for a total of 346,196 cases in the province.

The new cases include:
  • Fraser Health: 109
  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 52
  • Interior Health: 280
  • Northern Health: 214
  • Island Health: 140
  • People who reside outside of Canada: four
Note: 97 cases reported in Northern Health as new today are due to data corrections for historical cases reported between April 2021 and February 2022.

There are 653 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19 in B.C., and 108 are in intensive care.

In the past 24 hours, one new death (Northern Health) has been reported, for an overall total of 2,831.

There have been no new health-care facility outbreaks. The outbreaks at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital and Chemainus Health Care Centre (Island Health) have been declared over, for a total of 29 facilities with ongoing outbreaks, including:

COVID-19: 22 more deaths recorded in B.C. as Canadian travel restrictions lift

The number of people in hospitals and intensive care units with COVID-19 around B.C. continued to drop over the weekend.

Over the past three days, 50 people left hospital, bringing that total to 549.

In addition, there are now 85 people in intensive care with COVID-19, a drop of 11 since Friday.

However, 22 more deaths were recorded over the weekend, including someone in their 50s.

This means 2,873 people have now died from complications due to COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.

In addition, 974 cases were recorded over the weekend. That includes 398 from Friday to Saturday, 297 from Saturday to Sunday and 279 from Sunday to Monday.

However, the number of cases in B.C. is not a current reflection on the pandemic due to limited testing capacity in the province...
