B.C. reports 82 more people in hospital with COVID-19, 2 more in the ICU and 7 additional deaths over 3 days
Province records 6,966 new cases of the disease over 3-day period

B.C. health officials say 431 people are now in hospital with COVID-19, including 95 in intensive care, as the province reported seven more deaths from the disease and 6,966 new cases on Monday.

The new numbers represent an increase of 82 COVID-19 patients hospitalized over the last three days, including two more patients in the ICU.

Overall hospitalizations, which typically lag behind spikes and dips in new cases, are up by 44.6 per cent from last Tuesday, when 298 people were in hospital with the disease. Hospitalizations have more than doubled compared to a month ago when 211 people were in hospital...

...Experts say hospitalizations are a more accurate barometer of the disease's impact, as new case numbers in B.C. are likely much higher than reported, now that the province has hit its testing limit because of the Omicron surge.

The number of patients in intensive care is up by about 10.4 per cent from 86 a week ago and up by 31.9 per cent from a month ago when 72 people were in the ICU.

There are currently 34,551 recorded active cases of people infected with the novel coronavirus in B.C.

The provincial death toll from COVID-19 is now 2,446 lives lost out of 283,841 confirmed cases to date.

There are a total of 43 active outbreaks in assisted living, long-term, and acute care facilities. The province has declared seven new outbreaks at health-care facilities. Outbreaks at Guildford Seniors Village in Surrey and Victoria General Hospital have been declared over...

...From Dec. 31 to Jan. 6, people who were not fully vaccinated accounted for 17.8 per cent of cases and from Dec. 24 to Jan. 6, they accounted for 38.8 per cent of hospitalizations, according to the province....

COVID-19 in B.C: Almost 470 people are now in hospital battling the virus

Another 38 people battling COVID-19 have been admitted to hospital in B.C., bringing that total to 469.

Meanwhile, another two people are in intensive care for a total of 97 province-wide.

Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said Tuesday there are currently three people in their 20s and one person in their 30s in intensive care with COVID. She said all of them are unvaccinated.

A further three people have died from the virus in the past 24 hours, which includes a person in their 30s...

...In the past 24 hours, another 2,239 cases have been confirmed in B.C. and there are now 36,087 active cases.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been a total of 286,080 cases of the virus.

Henry said at a media briefing Tuesday that while the province is still riding the Omicron variant wave, “we may soon enter the place we see a decline.”

Those without vaccination are at a higher risk of ending up in hospital, she added, and while vaccinated people can still contract Omicron, vaccination reduces the risk of hospitalization to about 50 per cent...

As of Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2022, 88.9% (4,429,847) of eligible people five and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 83.2% (4,148,538) have received their second dose.

In addition, 92.2% (4,275,308) of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, 89.5% (4,148,174) received their second dose and 27.9% (1,293,926) have received a third dose.

Also, 92.6% (4,005,282) of all eligible adults in B.C. have received their first dose, 90% (3,891,188) received their second dose and 29.9% (1,292,823) have received a third dose.

B.C. is reporting 2,859 new cases of COVID-19, for a total of 288,939 cases in the province.

Note: The numbers of total and new cases are provisional due to a delayed data refresh and will be verified once confirmed.

There are currently 36,641 active cases of COVID-19 in the province and 246,693 people who tested positive have recovered. Of the active cases, 500 individuals are currently in hospital and 102 are in intensive care. The remaining people are recovering at home in self-isolation.

As of Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2022, 89.3% (4,448,921) of eligible people five and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 83.4% (4,157,150) have received their second dose.

In addition, 92.4% (4,282,675) of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, 89.7% (4,156,635) have received their second dose and 34.3% (1,591,505) have received a third dose.

Also, 92.8% (4,011,947) of all eligible adults in B.C. have received their first dose, 90.1% (3,898,949) have received their second dose and 36.8% (1,590,246) have received a third dose.

B.C. is reporting 1,975 new cases of COVID-19, for a total of 301,121 cases in the province.

Note: The numbers of total and new cases are provisional due to a delayed data refresh and will be verified once confirmed.

There are 37,167 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, and 258,417 people who tested positive have recovered. Of the active cases, 854 COVID-positive individuals are in hospital and 112 are in intensive care. The remaining people are recovering at home in self-isolation.

B.C. reports 41 more people in hospital with COVID-19, 3 more in the ICU and 13 more deaths
Province records 2,387 new cases of the disease

B.C. health officials reported 895 people in hospital with COVID-19 on Wednesday, including 115 in intensive care, as the province recorded 13 more deaths from the disease and 2,387 new cases.

The new numbers represent an increase of 45 COVID-19 patients hospitalized within the last 24 hours, including three more patients in the ICU.

Due to a data reporting change introduced Friday, Jan. 14, week-to-week hospitalization comparisons won't be available again until Friday, Jan. 21.

The number of patients in intensive care is up by about 12.7 per cent from 102 a week ago and up by 49.4 per cent from a month ago when 77 people were in the ICU.

Experts say hospitalizations are a more accurate barometer of the disease's impact, as new case numbers in B.C. are likely much higher than reported, now that the province has hit its testing limit because of the Omicron surge.

On Tuesday during a live news conference, Health Minister Adrian Dix said more than 95 per cent of B.C.'s hospital bed capacity is currently occupied with regular as well as COVID-19 patients.

Dix said that 8,778 base beds were in use out of a total capacity of 9,229 beds. He said there were an additional 2,353 surge beds, 570 of which were occupied.

As of Wednesday, 22.1 per cent of COVID-19 tests in B.C. are coming back positive, according to the province's COVID-19 dashboard.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry has said that anything above a five per cent test-positivity rate indicates a concerning level of community transmission.

As of Thursday, Jan. 20, 2022, 89.4% (4,455,046) of eligible people five and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 83.5% (4,161,148) have received their second dose.

In addition, 92.5% (4,286,419) of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, 89.8% (4,160,597) have received their second dose and 36.7% (1,700,206) have received a third dose.

Also, 92.8% (4,015,411) of all eligible adults in B.C. have received their first dose, 90.2% (3,902,659) have received their second dose and 39.3% (1,698,882) have received a third dose.

B.C. is reporting 2,150 new cases of COVID-19, for a total of 305,715 cases in the province.

There are 34,835 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, and 265,765 people who tested positive have recovered. Of the active cases, 891 COVID-positive individuals are in hospital and 119 are in intensive care. The remaining people are recovering at home in self-isolation.

B.C. reports 33 more people in hospital with COVID-19, 11 more in ICU

B.C. health officials reported 924 people in hospital with COVID-19 on Friday, including 130 in intensive care, as the province recorded nine more deaths from the disease and 2,364 new cases.

The new numbers represent an increase of 33 COVID-19 patients hospitalized within the last 24 hours, including 11 more patients in the ICU.

Overall hospitalizations, which typically lag behind spikes and dips in new cases, are up by 43 per cent from last Friday, when 646 people were in hospital with the disease

Due to a data reporting change introduced Jan. 14, month-to-month hospitalization comparisons won't be available again until Feb. 14.

The number of patients in intensive care is up from 95 a week ago and up by 71 per cent from a month ago when 76 people were in the ICU.

Experts say hospitalizations are a more accurate barometer of the disease's impact, as new case numbers in B.C. are likely much higher than reported, now that the province has hit its testing limit because of the Omicron surge.

There are currently 33,997 recorded active cases of people infected with the novel coronavirus in B.C.

The provincial death toll from COVID-19 is now 2,529 lives lost out of 308,079 confirmed cases to date.

As of Monday, Jan. 24, 2022, 89.6% (4,465,993) of eligible people five and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 83.6% (4,166,318) have received their second dose.

In addition, 92.6% (4,290,753) of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, 89.9% (4,165,636) received their second dose and 40.4% (1,874,956) have received a third dose.

Also, 92.9% (4,019,324) of all eligible adults in B.C. have received their first dose, 90.3% (3,907,214) received their second dose and 43.3% (1,873,448) have received a third dose.

Over a three-day period, B.C. is reporting 4,997 new cases of COVID-19, including three epi-linked cases, for a total of 313,076 cases in the province:
