A child in Cochise County has died of the flu, the first pediatric death from the infectious disease this season, the Arizona Department of Health Services said Wednesday.

The death came amid a growing number of flu cases statewide reported for the week ending Jan. 1. Of the 1,102 confirmed cases of flu for all ages since the Sept. 26 start of this season, 355 were reported last week.

PHOENIX -- A Cochise County child is Arizona's first pediatric death from the flu this season.

There have been about 1,100 confirmed cases of the flu reported since the season began on Sept. 26. Nearly one-third of those flu cases were reported just last week...
