Alberta reported 1,630 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday and 14 new deaths from the disease.
The new cases were detected on 15,857 tests with a positivity rate around 10.52 per cent.
With 14 new deaths announced Friday, there have now been 2,731 COVID-related deaths in Alberta.
Active cases of COVID-19 saw a slight decline from Thursday's update; there are now 20,215 active cases in the province....

Alberta reported 1,630 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday and 14 new deaths from the disease.

About 8,000 tests were performed in the previous 24 hours, with a positivity rate of 8.8 per cent, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, the province's chief medical officer of health, told a news conference.
There were 1,094 patients in hospital with the disease as of Tuesday, including 252 in intensive care.

Alberta's chief medical officer of health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, and Dr. Verna Yiu, president of Alberta Health Services (AHS), gave an update on COVID-19 Thursday.
Hinshaw started off the conference by apologizing to the family of the 14-year-old whose death was reported in the COVID-19 update Tuesday.
"The pain of losing a child is terrible enough, without having that loss compounded by a public debate about the circumstances," Hinshaw said.
Hinshaw said she has received additional information that shows COVID-19 was not a primary or secondary cause of death of the 14-year-old. The death will be removed from the reporting.
She said that going forward, the province will not report any deaths in those younger than 18 years old without a review process.
Hinshaw explained the reporting process for COVID-19 deaths. She says reporting includes deaths that have COVID as a primary or secondary cause of death, according to health-care teams involved in cases.
Yiu said the numbers of people critically ill with COVID-19 in ICUs are dropping, but she warns Albertans not to become complacent.
She said AHS is still uncertain about the impact the Thanksgiving long weekend may have had on COVID-19 numbers.
Doctors are resuming some surgeries after bookings had been scaled back by 75 per cent. But there is no timeline on when the province will be able to return to normal surgical volumes, Yiu said.

There are currently 295 patients in ICU, 225 of whom are being treated for COVID-19, Alberta Health Services said Monday.
ICU capacity, including the 203 additional surge beds, is currently at 78 per cent. Without the additional surge spaces, ICU capacity in Alberta would be at 170 per cent, AHS said.
While the number of patients in ICU fluctuates constantly, the number of patients in ICU has increased by 1.4 per cent over the past seven days.
AHS says it's still unclear what impact the Thanksgiving long weekend may have had on COVID-19 numbers.

An outbreak has been declared in the acute care unit at Rocky Mountain House Health Centre, says Alberta Health Services. There are currently 32 confirmed cases, including 17 patients and 15 staff. The hospital has paused admissions and is diverting obstetrical patients to other facilities, such as Red Deer.
Two doctors who treat patients from rural areas say a fifth wave may be inevitable if people in those communities do not get vaccinated at a faster pace.
Dr. Deena Hinshaw, chief medical officer of health, said Tuesday Alberta did not see an increase in COVID-19 cases after Thanksgiving, but health officials continue to monitor for any possible "secondary impact."
With pressure easing slightly on ICUs, AHS is reducing available surge beds to redeploy staff back to caring for non-COVID patients who need surgeries and procedures completed, an AHS spokesperson said Monday.
AHS said they will maintain ICU capacity above daily demand to a planned maximum of 380 beds as long as staff and physician availability allows, and will readjust plans as needed if COVID cases rise again.
Across the province, there are 341 general adult ICU beds open, including 173 additional spaces (more than twice the baseline 173 general adult ICU beds). This is 35 fewer surge ICU spaces than the peak of 376.

The latest on COVID-19 in Alberta:
Alberta reported 645 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday.
The total number of active cases in Alberta is 8,733.
Since the pandemic began, 3,073 Albertans have died of COVID, with 10 new deaths reported Wednesday.
Alberta is reporting an R-value below 1. The R-value is the average number of COVID-19 infections transmitted by each diagnosed case.
An R-value below 1 means transmission is no longer growing. Provincewide, the R-value for Oct. 11-17 was 0.85, with a confidence interval between 0.83 and 0.88.
The positivity rate was 5.6 per cent.
310,049 Albertans are considered to have recovered from COVID-19.
There are 810 Albertans in hospital with COVID-19, and 184 in intensive care.
An outbreak has been declared in the acute care unit at Rocky Mountain House Health Centre, says Alberta Health Services. There are currently 32 confirmed cases, including 17 patients and 15 staff. The hospital has paused admissions and is diverting obstetrical patients to other facilities, such as Red Deer.
Two doctors who treat patients from rural areas say a fifth wave may be inevitable if people in those communities do not get vaccinated at a faster pace.
Dr. Deena Hinshaw, chief medical officer of health, said Tuesday Alberta did not see an increase in COVID-19 cases after Thanksgiving, but health officials continue to monitor for any possible "secondary impact."
With pressure easing slightly on ICUs, AHS is reducing available surge beds to redeploy staff back to caring for non-COVID patients who need surgeries and procedures completed, an AHS spokesperson said Monday.
AHS said they will maintain ICU capacity above daily demand to a planned maximum of 380 beds as long as staff and physician availability allows, and will readjust plans as needed if COVID cases rise again.
Across the province, there are 341 general adult ICU beds open, including 173 additional spaces (more than twice the baseline 173 general adult ICU beds). This is 35 fewer surge ICU spaces than the peak of 376.
