Alberta reported 1,125 new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend

The latest COVID-19 numbers:

Alberta reported 1,125 new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend. They included:
470 cases on Friday.
386 cases on Saturday.
269 cases on Sunday.
Alberta Health Services updated its intensive care unit capacity numbers Friday. There are 262 general adult ICU beds open in Alberta, including 89 additional surge beds.
There are 214 patients in ICU, just under half of whom are COVID positive, AHS said.
Alberta's ICU capacity, with additional surge beds, is at 82 per cent. Without the surge spaces, ICU capacity would be at 124 per cent.
The province recorded six more deaths Monday. A total of 3,217 Albertans have died since the pandemic began.
There are active alerts or outbreaks in 174 schools.
The total number of active cases in Alberta is 5,311.
324,223 Albertans are considered to have recovered.
As of Monday, there are 463 people in hospital with COVID, and 98 in intensive care...

The latest COVID-19 numbers:

Alberta reported 253 new cases of COVID on Tuesday out of about 5,300 tests. The positivity rate is 5.2 per cent.
Alberta Health Services updated its intensive care unit capacity numbers Monday. There are 260 general adult ICU beds open in Alberta, including 87 additional surge beds.
There are 210 patients in ICU, just under half of whom are COVID positive, AHS said.
Alberta's ICU capacity, with additional surge beds, is at 81 per cent. Without the surge spaces, ICU capacity would be at 121 per cent.
The province recorded 10 more deaths Tuesday, including a child under two years of age.
A total of 3,227 Albertans have died since the pandemic began.

The latest COVID-19 numbers:

Alberta reported 464 new cases of COVID on Wednesday out of 10,424 tests.
Alberta Health says there are 470 people in hospital, with 97 in intensive care.
The province recorded four more deaths Wednesday.
A total of 3,231 Albertans have died since the pandemic began.
There are active alerts or outbreaks in 139 schools.
The total number of active cases in Alberta is 5,033.
325,204 Albertans are considered to have recovered.
Alberta is reporting an R-value below 1. The R-value is the average number of COVID-19 infections transmitted by each diagnosed case.
An R-value below 1.0 means transmission is no longer growing. Provincewide, the R-value for Nov. 1-14 was 0.92, with a confidence interval between 0.89 and 0.96.
The R-value for the Edmonton zone is 0.92, and in Calgary, 1.0 — the highest rate. In the rest of Alberta the rate is 0.87.
In response to falling COVID-19 numbers across the province, live media updates now will be held only once a week on Tuesdays. Daily numbers will continue to be posted online...

Alberta reports 356 new COVID-19 cases, 3 new deaths Friday

Alberta public health officials reported 356 new COVID-19 cases and three new deaths Friday.

Two of the people who died were women — one was in her 70s, another in her 80s — and the other was a man in his 60s, according to Alberta Health Services. They each died earlier this week.

The three deaths push Alberta's total COVID-19 death count to 3,235.

The new cases reported Friday were detected through 8,701 completed PCR tests. The test-positivity rate is 4.18 per cent.

The are now 5,017 known active COVID-19 cases in Alberta, an increase of 48 cases since Thursday's update...

...There are 455 people being treated for COVID-19 in hospital, including 90 patients in intensive care units.

This is a significant drop from one month ago, when there were 836 people in hospital with COVID, including 183 in ICU....

Alberta reports 806 new COVID-19 cases, seven additional deaths

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Alberta dropped below 5,000 on Monday, with 806 new infections reported by the province.

The three-day tally includes 325 COVID-19 cases identified on Friday, 253 cases on Saturday, and 228 cases on Sunday.

There are currently 4,850 active cases in Alberta, down from Friday’s count of 5,017...

..Since the last update, seven additional deaths caused by the virus have been reported, raising Alberta’s COVID-19 death toll to 3,242...

Alberta records 349 new COVID-19 cases, 1 additional coronavirus death

There were 349 new COVID-19 cases identified in Alberta over the past 24 hours, the provincial government reported on its website Friday afternoon.

The province’s positivity rate was reported as being 3.56 per cent.

Despite the new cases, the total number of active coronavirus cases in the province dropped to 4,440 on Friday, down from 4,539 the day before...

...As of Friday afternoon, there were 395 people in Alberta hospitals with COVID-19, with 78 of those patients being treated in intensive-care units. While the number of hospitalizations was down from Thursday (419), Friday’s total number of ICU patients with COVID-19 in Alberta was actually two more than a day earlier...

The latest COVID-19 numbers:

The number of people in Alberta confirmed with the omicron variant of COVID-19 has jumped to 11 as of Monday, up from four on Friday.
Early Monday, Alberta's chief medical officer of health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, tweeted there were 12 cases but later revised it to 11.
Omicron was named a variant of concern by the World Health Organization. Its emergence has prompted the return of border closures, travel restrictions and stricter testing requirements across the world.
Hinshaw said earlier in the day that all but one of the confirmed cases in Alberta have been among returning travellers, and the remaining a household contact, with all reporting only mild symptoms and recovering at home.
Some household members of those diagnosed with the variant have tested positive for COVID-19, but omicron has not been confirmed, Hinshaw said. One household contact recently attended an elementary school in Alberta Health Services' north zone and one attended a high school, Hinshaw said.
Alberta Health Minister Jason Copping said at a press conference at the University of Calgary on Monday that the province is watching the variant very closely and will see if more measures are needed based on Hinshaw's advice.
New COVID-19 numbers from the weekend are expected to be reported by the province on Monday afternoon. CBC Calgary and CBC Edmonton will publish them online.
