Health Officials Report Significant Rise in Congo Fever Cases
Some doctors at the Infectious Diseases Hospital in Kabul said that the number of Congo fever cases has increased in the current month.
Sharafat Zaman Amarkhil, the spokesman for the Ministry of Public Health, said that in the first five months of this year, over 200 people across the country have been infected with this disease, and six people have died due to it.
Amarkhil said: "In the past five months, we have had approximately 203 positive cases of Congo fever across the country. Last year, we had nearly 1240 positive cases, with around 100 deaths. The death toll in the past five months is six."
"When they find a wound or something, they should immediately stop in the area, meaning they should not contact other animals because it is not known if the animal carries the virus," said Hamed Raihan, a doctor.
Shamsuddin, a 38-year-old butcher who has been working in one of the districts of Takhar for the past twenty years, said that he has been infected with Congo fever for the past ten days and has come to Kabul for treatment from Takhar...
