Health Officials Report Significant Rise in Congo Fever Cases

Some doctors at the Infectious Diseases Hospital in Kabul said that the number of Congo fever cases has increased in the current month.

Sharafat Zaman Amarkhil, the spokesman for the Ministry of Public Health, said that in the first five months of this year, over 200 people across the country have been infected with this disease, and six people have died due to it.

Amarkhil said: "In the past five months, we have had approximately 203 positive cases of Congo fever across the country. Last year, we had nearly 1240 positive cases, with around 100 deaths. The death toll in the past five months is six."

"When they find a wound or something, they should immediately stop in the area, meaning they should not contact other animals because it is not known if the animal carries the virus," said Hamed Raihan, a doctor.

Shamsuddin, a 38-year-old butcher who has been working in one of the districts of Takhar for the past twenty years, said that he has been infected with Congo fever for the past ten days and has come to Kabul for treatment from Takhar.​..

Congo virus cases surge in Quetta as Eid-ul-Adha approaches

Quetta: With Eid-ul-Adha drawing near, the Congo virus has reemerged in Quetta causing concern among health officials. Two new cases have been confirmed at Fatima Jinnah General and Chest Hospital.

Hospital sources report that an additional patient suspected of having Congo fever has been admitted presenting symptoms of fever and low platelet count. This brings the total number of Congo virus cases at hospital this year to 19...

​Officials at Kunduz Infectious Diseases Hospital have recently reported 16 suspected cases of Congo fever, with 2 of these patients having died.

According to officials, in the past two months, 13,000 patients visited this hospital, out of which 900 were admitted, and the rest were treated and sent home.

Qiyamuddin Safi, the director of Kunduz Infectious Diseases Hospital, said: "In the past two months, we had 13,000 OPD patients. Among these patients, we admitted 918 individuals. Most of them were suffering from diarrhea and measles, and in June, we had 16 suspected cases of Congo fever, two of which were confirmed positive, and both of those patients died."​...
