All the treated Cases have shown the symptoms of diarrhoea,, vomiting, headache, abdominal pain and fever after taking part in an ‘Annadanam’(edible items offered at Kiliyalam Sree Subramanya Temple) which contained vegetarian food consisting of rice and curries and people also ate ice cream items like chocobar from local vendors. The food was supplied on the After noon of 28-02-2012 and symptoms started after 9-12 hours. Samples of stools and vomits are sent to Microbiological Lab, Medical College, Calicut for investigation. Water samples and Ice cream (Choco bar ) samples were collected and sent to KWA Lab ,Kasaragod and Analytical Lab, Malaparamba Kozhikode respectively for lab analysis. Result Awaited. House visit conducted-42 houses Well Chlorination-16 Conducted active case search with the help of ASHA workers and referred to PHCs. Distributed ORS packets. House to House Health Education given. Investigation Open Situation is under control. No new cases are reported from 03032012.All I.P Cases are discharged from respective hospitals.

All the cases were sporadically seen in ward 2, 3 and 9. 64% (9)of the patients were of the age group 35-45. No travel history has been observed from any of the patients.Slanding geographical areas lead to the contamination of wells in the surroundings.Unhygienic sanitions and lack of toilets in the area leads to the contamination of wells.Situation of toilets near the wells also lead to contamination of water sources. Serum Sample,6 Samples collected, Tested at PH Lab Ernakulam, 5v samples were positive RRT visited the area. Evaluated the activities conducted at peripheral level. Bleaching powder and chlorine supplied in the area, bit notices distributed in the area. Instructed the staffs on immediate measures to be taken at peripheral level. One (1) no of stool sample is collected on 14.03.2012 and sent to Microbiology department ,GMCH for examination on 15.03.2012 .results awaited. Four nos of water sample were collected from water source Tubal (tank) and examine with H2S strip on 14.03.2012 at 7.30 pm.Results awaited. Public Health personal from OO Jt.DHS,Darrang has visited the affected area and active surveillance done to fine out the cases take the necessary control measure.1.Antidiarrhoeal drugs and ORS provided to the affected people and advice are given for controlling the sistuation. 2.Stool sample and water sample is collected for examination. Random samples of cases were selected and blood samples were taken to NIV , Alappuzha to confirm the diagnosis 5 sample collected & tested HAV IgM positive (all five cases) on 20312. Water samples also given to Public Health Lab.(Awaiting lab results ) Peripheral RRT was formed immediately on 5312. DSU was informed on 9312.TA?s grade 1& 11 from DSU visited the area on 12312.Super chlorination of water sources done in the respective wards. Health education classes conducted in presence of ward member on 6312 and 9312 with special stress on safe water drinking and avoiding food and fluid ice-creamsipups intake from outside vendors. Investigation Open Area is under surveillance of DSU,Alappuzha. Situation is under control at present.

Leptospirosis Udayamperoor 10 0 16/03/2012 2012-03-23 16:10:42 4488 The onset of the first case was 07.03.2012. Clustering of cases has been observed in the area. All the cases were seen in ward 2 and ward 3. All the Patients were working under NREGA and has taken Doxycyclin before going for the work. All the patients were of the age group 40-60 and were having minor injuries on their legs. Symptoms were High fever, Chills, Headache, Red eyes, myalgia, Joint pain, abdominal pain. The source of Infection was found to be the water logged area where the workers worked under NREGA at Udayamperoor. Unhygienic surroundings lead to the rise in rat density in the area Of the 22 samples collected 10 samples were confirmed positive from PH Lab 1. District RRT consisting of Technical Assistant, Dy Mass Media Officer, District Epidemiologist Investigated the affected area. 2. Visited the affected patients at Udayamperoor. 3. Instructed the patients to visit at THQH Thripunittura. 4. Serum samples collected under active surveillance. 5. Awareness classes conducted in the area with the healp of ASHA workers and Health Inspectors. 6. Bleaching powder and chlorine supplied in the area, bit notices distributed in the area. 7. Intensified house to house fever surveillance and Anti Larval activity is being carried out by field staff & VHSC member, Health Education about Mosquito breeding and safe drinking water practice was given to the village peoples particularly youths. Residual Chlorine level checked found NIL. Chlorination of OHT done. The affected village has three OHT with 100,000,30,000, 30,000 liters capacity. Instruction given to the local body administration and tank operator for cleaning the tank immediately and chlorination has been done day to day with level of residual chlorine 2ppm . Instructed to disinfect the village sourending with bleeching powder . Investigation Closed Cholorination of Drinking water disinfect the sourending areas may in warfooded. IEC to the village people for drinking boild water.
