        Events & Comments
        Not subjective to the epidemic
DBP - Du Comment is interested in information on recently from the epidemiological alert virus risk influenza A / H1N1 could combine with an influenza A/H5N1 virus strains especially dangerous unpredictable. This warning comes from the case of male patients 23 years old, residing in Sam Mun commune, Dien Bien death after eating soup thousands more. Test results positive for influenza A/H5N1. Patients die from avian influenza infection causes pneumonia, acute respiratory failure. At the same time there are many ca influenza A/H1N1 infection in the area, so the warning about the risk of viruses can combine to create a variant of the virus is more dangerous than base. However, this is pure speculation for us to improve the prevention and alert Dinh, also an information channel is very important to anticipate all the evolutions worst can happen. http://www.baodienbienphu.info.vn/

Re: Vietnam - Dien Bien province, 23 year old died of H5N1 + other dead suspected patients with respiratory failure

          - Man dies in Sam Mum. Confirmed H5N1
          - 2 People die of suspected H5N1, in Thanh Luong & Pa Thom -
          ......diagnosis: Acute Resp.
          - their poultry have H5
-Health Dept. makes list and monitors people exposed to 3 patients w/suspected H5

          Does this sound about right?

The sample taken from poultry family two patients died from acute respiratory failure suspected influenza A/H5N1

The sample birds from two families of patients dying from acute respiratory failure suspected influenza A/H5N1: Luong Van God, the Panh, and Luong Thanh Luong Thi Lau, Cuong commune, Pa Thom commune are positive calculated with influenza A/H5N1. Test results led team of health workers from central to local levels raised concerns about the ability to match the influenza virus A/H1N1 and influenza A/H5N1 virus risk are very close.

Check poultry are raised by families of patients dying from influenza A/H5N1 first at Sam Mun, and patients with suspected influenza A/H5N1 death in Thanh Luong and Pa Thom (Dien Bien) results show: poultry are infected with influenza A/H5N1.

Hygiene team epidemiological investigation, make a list, monitor the health of people exposed to the three patients with suspected influenza A/H5N1 (for adults follow health after 14 days of children under the age of 15 after 21 days ) by measuring the temperature every day, if the sauce over 380C, with clinical manifestations of respiratory inflammation long will treatment, isolation, avoiding the spread cumA/H5N1 community.

Maybe "cousin" is a wrong word. Perhaps the word should be some kind of poultry?

Or maybe a body part? It seems the tests on the "cousin" confirmed the original case. Perhaps "cousin" should be "sample" or "phlegm" or "blood" or something of that nature?

But for some reason, the "cousin" is located in a different city. Very odd.

You would think we would have heard a lot more if a relative of his had died as well (or for that matter any other confirmed H5N1 case).

Perhaps there is a typo in the article. The article mentions the threat of H1N1 as well. Perhaps this sentence is a reference to the mild H1N1 case of a family member that was reported elsewhere.

[Best I could do with mapping the locations.....]
This map shows the vicinity between the confirmed poultry.

I asked a Vietnamese-American friend to translate the Vietnamese news article that Commonground quoted above in post 31 (referring back to post 23, posted on Dec 14). My friend passed on the task to her father who grew up in Vietnam and has lived in the States for many years. He provided the following translation (thank-you both!):

The death of V? Văn Minh from 14th Pom Lot team, Sam Mứn commune, Điện Bi?n due to influenza A/H5N1 on November 30 after eating a dish of raw duck blood makes a headline story. Test results after the sudden death of Minh?s cousin (who also had the same pathological symptons) were A/H5N1 positive, confirmed by the Central Hygiene and Epidemiology Institute. The sample birds from two families of patients dying from acute respiratory failure suspected of influenza A/H5N1: Lường Văn Chựa, from P?nh mountain village, Thanh Lu?ng commune, and Lường Thi Lau, from Xa Cu?ng mountain village, Pa Thơm commune, are also A/H5N1 positive. Test results led team of health workers from central to local levels raised concerns about the mating ability between A/H1N1 and A/H5N1 viruses and such risk is very high.

                            Original from Commonground's post:

                              Thank you everyone.

So there are 2 H5N1 positive confirmed persons who had exposure to H5N1 infected poultry. In addition there are apparently others who died of acute respiratory illness who also were exposed to H5N1 positive poultry.
