Vietnam faces risk of bird flu recurrence: official
HANOI (Xinhua): Vietnam faces the risk of being hit by the bird flu which is likely to reappear in the current cold weather, creating concern about human infection of the disease, the local newspaper The Youth reported Thursday.
"There is a risk of disease recurrence due to the cold weather conditions and the precedented development of the epidemic in poultry in previous years," warned the Deputy Minister of Health Trinh Quan Huan.
Bird flu outbreaks in Vietnam, starting from December 2003, have caused 106 reported infectious cases, killing 52 people in 36 cities and provinces nationwide, the newspaper cited figures from the Ministry of Health.
The ministry is working with relevant government organizations and institutes nationwide to monitor the development of the disease, particularly in the affected localities and those with a history of epidemic outbreaks.
