    Flu season striking early with 15 hospitalizations in state so far

    The flu season is starting earlier than usual, just like last year, but it's too soon to tell how severe it will be or which age group will be hit the hardest, state and local public health officials said Wednesday.

    About half of the 15 flu-related hospitalizations reported so far across the state are in Milwaukee County. A total of 25 influenza cases have been confirmed statewide.

    Both influenza A and B strains are circulating in most regions of the state, and all circulating strains so far are included in this year's vaccine, Haupt and Biedrzycki said.

    It's still too early to determine a predominant strain for the season. So far, officials are seeing more A/H1N1 ? the 2009 pandemic swine flu strain that hit children the hardest.

        3 of those this week were admitted to ICU, 2 of those needed mechanical ventilation.
