Health officials ID swine flu cases

Health officials believe H1N1 influenza, known as swine flu, is spreading throughout the region.
Grant County identified 11 cases of swine flu from June through August, but the county health officer believes many more could be present and is urging precautions.
Because health officials know swine flu is present, they're testing only people who are seriously ill or women who are pregnant.
But nationally, 99 percent of Influenza A-positive samples reported to the Centers for Disease Control have been identified as swine flu, so officials assume most people sick with flu now have the H1N1 strain.
The Hermiston School District said Monday that it had been notified of several confirmed cases of swine flu in Umatilla County and suspected several Hermiston students were affected.
The district is working with staff and students to encourage hand-washing, covering a cough or sneeze, and good hygiene to keep germs from spreading.
