    Week 40: Sporadic
    * One (0.41%) specimen tested by NREVSS laboratories in Texas was positive for influenza A (not subtyped) by antigen detection test. Two specimens tested in other Texas laboratories were positive for influenza A (not subtyped) by PCR.
    *ILI: 3.20% The percentage of visits for influenza-like illness as reported by ILINet providers in Texas was below the state and regional baselines.

    Nineteen (3.9%) specimens tested by NREVSS laboratories in Texas were positive for influenza. Eight specimens were positive for influenza A (H3N2), one specimen was positive for influenza A (not subtyped), and one specimen was positive for influenza B by PCR testing; all other positive results were obtained by antigen detection test.

    The percentage of visits for influenza-like illness as reported by ILINet providers in Texas was below the state and regional baselines.

    19 (3.9%) positive isolates: 17 (89.5%) Flu A; 2 (10.5%) Flu B

        In the original Texas week 42 report, the four specimens of H3N2 were mislabeled as seasonal H1N1 in the accompanying table. This has since been corrected although they left the percentages unchanged.

          * Fifteen (2.7%) specimens tested by NREVSS laboratories in Texas were positive for influenza. Four specimens were positive for influenza A (H3N2) and one specimen was positive for influenza B by PCR testing; all other positive results were obtained by antigen detection test.
          * The percentage of visits for influenza-like illness (3.01%) as reported by ILINet providers in Texas was below the state and regional baselines.
          * One influenza-associated pediatric death was reported.The child did not have underlying medical conditions; however, a blood specimen collected from the child was positive for Streptococcus pneumoniae.
          * No outbreaks or school closures were reported.

                              1 death; total 3
                              One influenza-associated pediatric death was reported. 14-month-old resident of HSR 2/3 with no underlying medical conditions. A specimen collected from the child was positive by PCR testing for influenza A (H3N2). The child had not received influenza vaccine during the current season. Two influenza-associated pediatric fatalities have been reported in Texas since the beginning of the 2010-2011 influenza season. There has been one influenza-associated death in a pregnant or postpartum woman this season.

                              ILI: 4.11%
                              18.5% specimens positive for influenza: 2009 influenza A (H1N1), A (H3N2), B
                              One influenza outbreak in a long-term care facility was reported.
