Flu cases on the rise in Nueces County, even among those who have been vaccinated

...Nearly 600 people in Nueces County have had the flu this season, according to the Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District. That's 14 times the number of people who had it at the same time last year.

Although flu cases are on the rise, most appear to be Type B, said Dr. William Burgin, local health authority. Type B flu, which only affects humans, is typically not as severe as Type A, which can affect people and animals, and is responsible for epidemics...

..."If you haven't had the flu shot, get it," said Dr. William Burgin, the City-County Health Authority. "If you get the flu, do not go to work. Cover your nose and mouth when you sneeze."

Burgin says that most of the local pharmacies have run out of Tamiflu...
