Influenza
Philadelphia Influenza Surveillance Updates: PDPH tracks influenza activity in Philadelphia, especially severe influenza disease. Providers should report all hospitalized influenza cases, influenza deaths in children, and influenza outbreaks in closed settings like long-term care facilities and shelters.
Week 5: Influenza diagnoses at local emergency departments increased for adolescents and adults, but slightly decreased for children < 5 years during week 5. Positive detections of influenza A at select local hospital laboratories remained high. Note that data from one facility are incomplete from Week 1 2025 forward, so counts will likely increase. Detections for Influenza B remained low. Twenty influenza outbreaks have been reported and confirmed (≥ 1 case of laboratory confirmed flu reported in a long-term care facility) so far this season. ...

Masks required at UPMC hospitals and outpatient areas starting

PITTSBURGH —
UPMC is announcing a mask requirement at all of its hospitals and outpatient areas, starting Feb. 12.
Patients, visitors, support persons, and staff in patient care areas will be required to wear a mask, UPMC said in a statement Monday. Masks will be available for people who need one. ...
UPMC says, "We are currently seeing substantial levels of respiratory illness due to several viruses. Masking will help to decrease the risk of spreading these potentially serious respiratory illnesses among our patients and staff."
