    BEAVER FALLS --

There has been a rash of illnesses at in the Beaver River Central School District in Lewis County, causing more than 300 students to stay home sick.

According to the school district, 335 students district-wide did not attend school on Tuesday, after 279 reported being sick on Monday. This after what the district called ?normal? attendance last Friday. Of the students who did attend Monday, approximately 100 reported to the nurse?s offices with what are being called "flu-like" symptoms. 60 of those 100 who checked in with the nurses at school ended up going home early on Monday.

The district tells Action News that they are making phone calls to parents to try to find out exactly what is keeping their children home from school. Also, the district says that for preventative purposes the schools? custodial staffs are disinfecting door handles every hour, and desks and keyboards are being wiped down regularly as well.

The district says they are following Centers for Disease Control guidelines, and are working with the Lewis County Public Health Department to control the potential spread of any illnesses.

The Beaver River School District has an enrollment of 922 students in grades K-12.

A parent forum has been scheduled for Wednesday night at 7:00 PM in the school auditorium in Beaver Falls.
