A tenth person has died from the H1N1 virus, also known as swine flu, according to New Jersey officials.

A Camden County woman, 30, with underlying medical conditions, died on July 1, according to Thomas Slater, a spokesman for the state Health and Senior Services department.

New Jersey has 833 confirmed cases and an additional 456 probable cases through today, according to the state.

"With influenza, which is a serious illness, even during a seasonal influenza season, we do see deaths," said Slater.

Slater cautioned though that the 10 deaths related to swine flu is a "relatively mild outbreak." In the typical October to March flu season, Slater said the state usually has 1,400 to 1,900 deaths related to flu or pneumonia.

Slater also said that New Jersey is experiencing a late flu season.

"The important thing that we're doing is continuing to see how it's reacting in the southern hemisphere and in New Jersey and the United States, so we can get an idea of how it's going to happen in the fall," he said.
