    Week 49: Local; Week 50: Widespread
    ? Influenza-like illness and acute respiratory illness were the same or similar compared to the previous week at 0.4% and 1.9% of patient visits, respectively.
    ? Pneumonia and influenza-related deaths accounted for 6.0% of deaths, which was below the epidemic threshold of 10.5% for week 49.
    ? Forty new respiratory specimens were submitted for laboratory testing during week 49, and thirty were positive, including 28 for seasonal influenza AH3 and two for influenza B. Nine were negative and one was inconclusive.

    School Absenteeism for ILI (week 50): Some reporting 3%-4.9%. (center of state) This same area reported ILI absenteeism at 1%-2.9% in week 49.

    Week 50:
    P&I deaths: 10.5%
    • Influenza-like illness and acute respiratory illness were increased compared to the previous week at 0.9% and 2.6% of patient visits, respectively.
    • Pneumonia and influenza-related deaths accounted for 12.4% of deaths, which was above the epidemic threshold of 10.5% for week 50.
    • Forty-six new respiratory specimens were submitted for laboratory testing during week 50, and 36 were positive for seasonal influenza AH3. Ten were negative.

    Week 51:
    • Influenza-like illness and acute respiratory illness were increased compared to the previous week at 1.8% and 3.4% of patient visits, respectively.
    • Pneumonia and influenza-related deaths accounted for 10.1% of deaths, which was below the epidemic threshold of 12.2% for week 51.
    • Eighty-three new respiratory specimens were submitted for laboratory testing during week 51, and 71 were positive for seasonal influenza AH3. Twelve were negative.

      • Pneumonia and influenza-related deaths accounted for 14.1% of deaths, which was above the epidemic threshold of 9.6% for week 52.
      • Fifty-nine new respiratory specimens were submitted for laboratory testing during week 52, and 38 were positive, including 35 for seasonal influenza AH3, one for 2009 influenza A (H1N1), and two for influenza B. Twenty-one were negative.

      P&I deaths: 14.1%; this is above the epidemic threshold for week 52 (9.6%)

        ? Pneumonia and influenza-related deaths accounted for 15.2% of deaths, which was below the epidemic threshold of 15.4% for week 1.
        ? Eighty-two new respiratory specimens were submitted for laboratory testing during week 1, and 44 were positive, including 43 for seasonal influenza AH3 and one for influenza B. Thirty-eight were negative.

          New Hampshire Flu Update

          Like many areas of the country, flu activity in New Hampshire continues to increase with high levels of influenza-like-illness being reported in communities around the State.
          • So far this season there have been 44 outbreaks reported, most occuring in nursing homes or long-term care facilities; 24 of those outbreaks remain open and active.
          • There have been 25 flu-related deaths in New Hampshire so far this flu season.
          • Anyone over the age of 6 months is encouraged to get vaccinated as it remains the best protection against the illness.

                So far this season there have been 51 outbreaks reported, most occurring in nursing homes or long-term care facilities; 5 of those outbreaks remain open and active.
                There have been 36 flu-related deaths in New Hampshire so far this flu season.
                Anyone over the age of 6 months is encouraged to get vaccinated as it remains the best protection against the illness.

                    There have been 38 flu-related deaths in New Hampshire so far this flu season. (One of which is pediatric)

                    •Pneumonia and influenza-related deaths accounted for 7.8% of deaths, which was below the epidemic threshold of 12.3% for week 6.

                    For week 6 (2/03/13–2/09/13) the overall state absenteeism rate was 4.7% based on 108 (16%) of 676 NH public and private schools reporting the number of students absent. The overall state student absenteeism for ILI rate was 0.3% for the week based on 86(13%) schools reporting students absent due to ILI.
