Missourians Mostly Said "No" To H1N1 Vaccine

    Monday, Apr 5, 2010 @06:36am CDT

Most Missourians didn't bother getting the H1N1 flu vaccine, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

New federal statistics show Missouri tied with Alabama for the third-lowest vaccination rate in the country.

Only 15.7-percent of Missouri residents received the flu shot by the end of January, which was lower than every state except Louisiana and Mississippi.

This is interesting given that Missouri has the lowest population-based death rate (at 1.8 deaths per million) than any other state. The next lowest are more than twice that number.

When MO was reporting P&I deaths compared to previous flu seasons, they were a bit higher. In Feb, a new system was implemented. Now NO P&I deaths are reported.

      P&I deaths Week 2: 100
P&I deaths Season-to-Date: 1,065 (last year at this time 987)
      P&I deaths Week 2 Last Season: 73

By week 6: P&I: near average in totals for season from last year (then they stopped reporting)
