Volunteers Needed For Possible Flu Pandemic

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -
The Medical Reserve Corps. of Greater Kansas City will train volunteers Saturday to help out in the event of public health emergencies, including flu pandemics.
In preparation for both the H1N1 and seasonal influenza, the corps is hosting the volunteer event from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Mid-America Regional Council Office at 600 Broadway, according to a news release.
The volunteers would get training and receive credentials to assist public health agencies during the next six months.
The first registration was held last month and almost 100 volunteers signed up. Possible tasks for the volunteers during a pandemic would include participating in vaccination clinics, staffing phone banks and assisting wtih home-health monitoring for quarantined individuals. Volunteers will also help out with educational efforts.
