A mild flu season peaks, then drops in Missouri (1,810 P&I deaths)
Nearly 2,000 Missourians have died from complications from the flu this season, which generally runs from October through April, but health officials say it’s been a mild year. The Missouri Department of Health says there have been 1,810 deaths to date this flu season, and despite that people think the danger of the flu has passed for the […]
A mild flu season peaks, then drops in Missouri
...The Missouri Department of Health says there have been 1,810 deaths to date this flu season...
...Spokeswoman Jacqueline LaPine says the statewide data ? which tracks influenza cases as well complications from it, such as pneumonia ? shows the weekly median for deaths this season was about 70 ? this past week 95 people in Missouri died from the flu...more at link
(JimO Comment - this is the first instance that I can think of where a public health official openly attributed P&I deaths to influenza.)

Re: A mild flu season peaks, then drops in Missouri (state attributes 1,810 deaths to flu)
Something is sure back in Missouri, at least around my household. My son contracted it over a week ago, and is still coughing. My husband got it a few days ago; it's still coming on strong for him. He teaches and should really be staying home, but is trying to hold out through today when spring break kicks in for a week. Many of his students have been out over the past couple of weeks. I've noticed more coughing in stores. I'm not so sure Missouri is out of the woods yet. Stay tuned
Re: A mild flu season peaks, then drops in Missouri (state attributes 1,810 deaths to flu)
An addendum: On Missouri Dept of Health site, "A new system was implemented February 2010 causing P& I death data to be inconsistent." So comparing these 95 P&I deaths to a few weeks ago can't be done. What can be compared is last season at this time, because system was in effect. There were 40 P&I deaths during week 9 (last season) compared with 95 P&I deaths week 9 (current). Also, what can be compared are total deaths for season: During 2009-2010 there were 1,339 P&I deaths recorded to this point. Currently, there have been 1,810 P&I deaths recorded. How many of the P&I deaths are actually flu deaths would be the question. http://www.dhss.mo.gov/living/health.../Week91011.pdf
