Six more Minnesotans have died of H1N1 flu virus, bringing the total to 50 confirmed deaths since May, the Minnesota Department of Health reported Wednesday.
In the past week, two schools reported outbreaks of flu-like illness, up from one the week before, the new statistics show. But the numbers are still down dramatically from the peak in late October, when 288 schools had outbreaks.
Three people were hospitalized with H1N1 virus in the week ending Dec. 12, bringing the total to 1,567 since Sept. 1.
There was also a slight uptick in the number of patients treated with flu-like illness at so-called sentinel clinics throughout the state. Last week, 1.56 percent of patients at those clinics had flu symptoms, compared to 0.3 percent the week before.
